My PoS suddenly shows duplicates of my categories. Makes it difficult to allocate items to them. Any ideas why that might be?
I came across this problem too - do you have Square Online set up?
It looks like Square categories have recently merged and unified across the platforms. What might seem like duplicates are actually the same categories listed from both Square and Square Online (you’ll notice the ones from Square Online have a small world icon).
One issue I ran into after the merge was that the KDS wouldn’t pick up categories created in Square Online. If you’re using KDS, this can be a problem. I had to delete all categories and reassign items to fix it.

@JosClark and @pigsnoseinn are you both using Square Online and were you both using Square online for the recent transition of some of the functionality from the old dashboard to the Square Dashboard? When the transition happened we noticed some of the categories duplicated in the Square Dashboard, we had to spend a little time tidying up, but it was a good housekeeping exercise for us, so it was worth our effort. Perhaps you are seeing something similar?
