When you say built-in data do you mean the ability to connect to cellular data for an internet connection? If yes:
All of the POS hardware that I've used (terminal, stand, register) needs a WiFi connection which you can "create" with your phone by using a hot spot. But you can also just connect to a wireless router as you would a laptop.
