Does anyone use the terminal for strictly receipts?

When we decided to go with the Stand, we were going to return the terminal (we hadn't opened it yet). Customer service said we could use it to print receipts.

I have had a lot of trouble getting the Stand to even see the terminal. I got it connected once (though I don't know how) and when I tried to use it -- it basically disabled the Stand and wanted us to use it instead.

I've called Customer Service and she tried to help me, but unfortunately we didn't get anywhere.

I am hoping to that someone can help guide this newbie! Thank you!

Hello @Zargon !

Yes, you can definitely use the Terminal as a receipt printer via the Connected Terminal option.

It will do a little more than just print receipts though. Basically, the terminal will act like one of those older swipe terminals you see at many merchants. You ring up the order on the stand first then you send the order to the terminal. The customer then completes the payment process on the terminal. There is an option to print the receipt at that time. When the customer selects that option, the terminal will print out a receipt.

From the help file, here's how to set up your terminal:

To connect Square Terminal to Square Point of Sale:

  1. From the Square POS app on your iOS or Android device, tap Menu > Settings > Hardware > Square Terminal.

  2. Select Connect Square Terminal

  3. Enter a nickname and location to associate with your Terminal, then tap Continue.

  4. Tap Sign in.

  5. The Square POS app will generate a device code. Enter this code on your Square Terminal to complete pairing. Then, tap Sign In.

  6. You’ll receive a confirmation in-app once you've successfully connected your Square Terminal to your device — Square Terminal will display “Powered by Square”.

  7. Tap Done to start accepting payments.

If you want an itemized receipt to print with every transaction the terminal handles (you'll still have to manually print cash transactions), you can configure the terminal once it is paired to the stand:

Swipe left to right on the terminal, go to settings. Choose Printer, then select Always Print.

Hope this helps!
