Contactless chip reader won’t pair with iPad(a16).

Contactless chip reader won’t pair with iPad(a16). All software is up to date. When trying to pair, it fails. But then will pop up with the device name to click and retry pairing. Never successful. Support couldn’t figure it out through troubleshooting with the same methods I had tried already. I received a new replacement reader under warranty and am still having the same issue. Can anyone lend some guidance?

Hi @SugarBumpkin!

Sorry to hear you’ve been having trouble pairing your Square Reader to your iPad (A16), and thanks for including the model, it’s definitely compatible, so no issues there.

I’ve checked your new Square Reader on our end, and everything looks normal, with no signs of damage that would prevent it from pairing.

To help me figure out what’s going wrong, could you walk me through the exact steps you’re taking to pair the Reader? Let me know where things don’t go as expected. For example, when you click Connect a Reader, do you see an error? Or are the lights on your Reader flashing as usual?

There’s usually a point in the process where something isn’t connecting correctly, and identifying that step will help me guide you toward the next best action. I’ll wait for your reply with more details. If it helps, you can follow the steps outlined in our online guide (Step 3: Connect and update your Square Reader).

Hi Laurie,

I was able to get in contact with someone in support that tried a different tactic; pairing with my phone first to update the reader from Squares end. Everything worked perfectly in pairing to the iPad after that. Thank you so much for reaching out and offering assistance!
