For years we had been using the Brother HL-L2405W to print draw reports and automatically print online orders from our website when they come in. A few months ago, it stopped working and will now only print blank pages. I contacted Square and they said this was never a compatible printer and shouldn't have been printing at all (it had for 5+years). They said there is only one Brother printer compatible, but I can't find that email now and internet searches are not helping either. Does anyone happen to know which Brother printer is compatible or have recommendations on other standard printers that will work?
Square only supports printing on the printers in its hardware compatibility list, which is mostly Star Micronics and Epson receipt and kitchen printers. Regular office printers connected over AirPrint aren't on it, so an app or firmware update can stop them without warning. That's most likely what happened to your Brother after five years.
Two ways to get auto-printing back:
1. A supported receipt printer, for example a Star Micronics TSP143 or an Epson TM-m30. In the POS app go to Settings > Hardware > Printers, add it, and turn on Online order tickets. Check the compatibility list for your exact device first.
2. Keep the Brother and print outside Square: a small connector listens for each new online order and sends a printable copy straight to the printer, so it works with any printer on your network.
Do you print from an iPad or Square Register, or from a computer?
