Hello!
My business is not yet open and I'm trying to sort out the logistics of the Square Hardware and POS flow.
My ideal scenario (and I've seen stores do this - not sure it was with Square though) is to have a receptionist with an iOS computer (running the Square software), and 2 iPads (Square Stand Hardware). The receptionist will check out the customer via their computer, and send the final order (bill summary) to one of the two iPads that face the customers. The customer completes the transaction on one of the iPads.
How can I do this?
The concept of 'sending' the final order from the receptionists computer to one of the 2 iPads is where I'm uncertain.
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Matt
@ScruffLab Check out the connected terminal...you can also send payment links inside the app..or even send invoices directly from the dashboard to the customer's phone.

The only caveat I see is having a mac and not just using one tablet for the order to be generated and sent. You can use the virtual terminal in the online dashboard, but this would only require a web browser and not a mac.
This is for a Square Appointments setup, so the benefit of the receptionist computer is for that employee to handle in person scheduling and appointment matters. The iPads would be wirelessly connected due to how the customer check-out experience is designed.
I'm hoping to avoid the terminal and use iPads (for purely aesthetic/perception reasons - relevant to the demographic).
Could I use a Square Register along with 2 iPads?
Or is there a way to use a Square App on a computer to send orders to tablets?
@ScruffLab This is an interesting use case that is a little unique. To me the terminal on a stand would be an excellent way to do it, not as pretty as an ipad, but you are still going to have to deal with a chip/dip reader and the terminal is built in.
The square register might be the way to go, the customer facing screen is prettier.
Hi Matt,
Just curious would this be a normal checkout process? Ringing up transactions and they pay? It sounds like you could be better off going with a Square Register with the customer facing screen. It wouldn't allow for multiple customer facing screens but if you have one cashier/receptionist it kind of limits how fast they can check out customers anyways. You could always get a second Square register if you end up with multiple receptionists.
Are you using more of the retail side of Square or the appointments?
This is for a Square Appointments model - which of course has a healthy dose of retail as secondary revenue channel.
