Best way to make barcodes? (Standard version)

So we want to start using barcodes in our store but I don't want to switch to square for retail in order to make them. So what is the best way to generate and create barcodes without square for retail? Or do I have to use that? I have a barcode printer on  the way for actually printing them

When you sign up for Square Retail you get a 30 day trial for free. So you could make the labels during the trial. 

Also you can technically make your barcodes outside of Square. Even with the Standard Point of Sale processing you can use barcode scanning. As long as you have sku entered in for item.

Lots of free barcode generation sites online. I used one to make my own barcodes.
