2 Businesses, 1 square account

I currently have a business using Square for restaurants. I recently purchased a clothing store, I clearly don't want the restaurant platform and would like to use the retail platform for the clothing store. Is it possible to do that under locations?

Hi there, @Angelapk

Good question— congratulations on expanding your business!

Yes, you can absolutely manage both businesses under one square by setting up separate locations. Each location can have its own business name, item library, POS setup, and even use a different industry - specific solution— such as square for restaurants for your dining business and square for Retail for your clothing store.

Here’s how you can set it up:

1. Go to your square Dashboard > Account & settings > Business Locations.
2. Click “Create location”

3. Enter your new clothing store’s information and choose Square for Retail when setting up the POS.
4. You can manage employees, taxes, inventory, and sales separately for each location while keeping one unified account and reporting overview.

This approach gives you flexibility without needing to create an entirely new square account.

would you like me to share a quick walkthrough on how to switch between your restaurant and Retail dashboards once both locations are active?

Hi there, @Angelapk

Absolutely— I can walk you through that, once you have two active locations ( for example, one for restaurant and one for retail) set up under the same square account, square makes it easy to switch between dashboards and manage each separately.

Here’s the step by step process:

Step 1: Confirm both locations are Active

1. Log in to your square Dashboard.
2. Go to account & settings > business — locations.
3. Ensure you see both locations listed (eg; “main stream restaurant “and “Downtown Retail”)

• Each should show a status of Active.
• if not click “Activate” or “Create location” and finish the setup.

Step 2: Access the correct Dashboard

Each location can have its own vertical - specific dashboard (Restaurant or Retail).
1. In the top-left corner of the square Dashboard, look for the location switcher ( a drop-down next to your business name)

2. Click the drop-down you’ll see a list of all locations.
3. Select the location you want to manage:

• Choose Restaurants location > you’ll be taken to square for Restaurants dashboard.
• Choose Retail location > you’ll be taken to square for restaurants Dashboard.

Tip: The URL will change slightly when you switch. ( e.g; Square dot com / dashboard/ restaurant/ ……. Vs square up dot com/ dashboard / retail/ ….)

Step 3: Switching in the POS App ( if you use both)

if you’re switching between locations on square apps (iPad or terminal)

1. Sign in the app with your kain square account

2. Tap the three line menu (=) > select settings > Locations

3. Tap “Switch location”

4. Choose the location you want to use (Restaurant or Retail)

5. The app will load the correct layout, menus, and item catalog for that location.
Each location can have its own:

• Menus / catalogs

• Taxes

• Employees and permissions

• Report and sales data

Step 4: Viewing reports by location

1. From the main square Dashboard > go to reports > sales summary

2. Use the location filter at the top right to view data for:

• Restaurant only

• Retail only

• or All locations combined

Optional — Assign Roles and Access

if you have staff managing different locations:

1. Go to staff > Team > permissions

2. Assign which team members can access each dashboard or POS location

if you it was helpful you mark 👍 for other people to see who has same problem

if you like, you can send me a quick message for more assistance.
