How to sell as a Canadian to a USA customer in USD currency?

Hi,

My business is in Canada and would like to charge a USA customer in USD on their USA credit card.  Can this be done?  Or do I have to charge in CDN and their credit card company does the conversion to their currency?

At the moment Square accounts are only able to charge in the currency for the country the account is registered in - so it'd be the latter in this case. A US customer would pay the amount in CAD and their card provider would perform a currency conversion based on rates at the time.

Hi Seamus, 

I really wish square would give Canadian and American customers the ability to charge and receive in the country in-which we SELL to, not sell FROM.  Right now, I will have to add an addition price, which is about 25% higher in $CDN, for all my American clients. This is why I don’t use my square database to its full potential.

I also find this to be ridiculous. We are losing out on sales because customers cannot do the conversions on their own.  Americans buying from my Canadian site see high dollar values for items when in actual fact they have more buying power with the $US being higher.  This is not apparent to the demographic ordering from us. Again we are losing sales.

A currency conversion feature has been asked for for a long time now and needs to be implemented. If you want your platform to thrive and increase your numbers of subscribers you need to start listening to the community and implement what we need to grow our businesses.

I definitely can see why allowing your customers to use their local currency would be beneficial in driving sales for you. I'll make sure to pass this feedback on to our team.
