Hi,
We are a new business coffee shop owners and we are looking for a label printer that is compatible with square. We only use a square contactless reader. We are hoping we can print the order so we can stick it to the cup without writing it. Could you direct me in the right direction, I'm having trouble finding this information.
Thanks,
Your staff will hate you. Imagine a line of customers. Write the names George, Paul, John, Ringo on the cups. Now...type those names, takes 3-4 seconds for each label, paste label on cup. See the time difference? And that's if the names are spelled correctly first time without correction.
Now picture a line of customers...the place is hopping and slammed. Nice line of customers. And some joker says his name is " Oglethorpe". Great in theory, disaster in practice.
Occams Razor.
Hi! I was imaging for example when a customer order a latte and the sticky printer will automatically print 'latte' and it'll have the order number so our barista just have to call out the order number. In this case we don't have to enter/write the customer name. But true, I haven't looked into if square has this capability. I've been observing other businesses with similar set up as ours and they use clover with this capability.
I imagine what you are thinking would be easier in theory and a little touchy in practicality. Keep us up to date as you think this out, I would be very interested to hear what you end up with.
Cheers.
Hi There! We are also a coffee shop and have thought about integrating a sticky label printer into our shop to print drink orders onto.
Currently we have our ticket that prints out that says how the drink should be made, the only time we write on a cup is when there are multiple drinks in an order and we will write something distinguishing the two.
For example: Someone orders three 16 oz drinks, one is a Light roast coffee, one is a Light Roast with cream and sugar and one is a Vanilla latte with Oat milk- we would write: *Light, *Cream/sugar, *latte
Or if someone orders 2 lattes one with oat milk one with whole milk we would just right *oat on the latte with oat milk.
I will say yes, it can take a couple seconds to type the persons name in square when printing the tickets, and when you're moving fast there can be spelling errors, but for us it is all about the atmosphere YOU create! We like to say we have the best customers in the world, because when we are slammed and busy our customers are supportive and they are kind, because we are kind to them. It's communicating to them that you have a few tickets in front of theirs, it's letting them know their order is being worked on as you walk by them while delivery an order to someone else. It is all about attitude, communication, and how you treat them.
I hope this is somewhat helpful! I would love to answer any other questions you may have! Oh! here is the link to the thread about the sticky label printer!
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
What is your coffee shop called??
We have also considered using a sticky label printer in our coffee shop, but were concerned about some of the challenges @AnnaB mentioned, as well as the expense of the labels (depending on how busy you are, it can really add up!). What we've ended up doing instead is setting up a tablet next to the espresso machine, using the Fresh KDS system to display orders similarly to what we do for our kitchen team. Then, the register person doesn't have to label anything, and similar to what @Lovewell said, we only label cups if we need to distinguish them from each other in some way (like "XS" for extra shot, "soy" for soy milk, etc.). The Fresh KDS system has worked really well for us, and makes it so the barista has the order right in front of them instead of relying on shorthand written on the cup. Hope that helps some!
