Does anyone know if there is a way to test the KDS without actually placing an order. I am not sure when the kitchen name feature was added (or I just didn't notice/or use) that feature, but the way my items are now displayed is very confusing. I need to make it easy for my kitchen staff to follow. I would like to be able to do "fake" orders to test without messing up my reports/sales. Any ideas?
Use a ticket, then void the ticket.
That void happens before sale is complete and doesnt send to the display. Can only send to KDS after payment taken then have to refund. I was trying to aviod doing this. Square has a sandbox testing platform, but doesnt work to test the KDS.
I disagree, I save to Ticket and it sends to the KDS. The customer can come in a week later and pay if that's what I choose, but in this case you just void it so no payment required. A test in reality.
Then there must be a setting that is different between your system and mine. For mine the tickets only go to the KDS after ticket is paid. I run a food truck and use the standard POS not the restaurant version.
We also operate a food truck and I always run a test at each location we're at. I created a TEST discount code with 100% comp. It just saves me the hassle of voiding the ticket and having voided or refunded tickets in my reporting.
@clkirk @KCarp This is what we do as well. We send test orders every morning to make sure everything is printing correctly (we "print" to three different screens, depending on the items). Then we just comp the ticket using the TEST comp (for 100%). Then I can separate those out when looking at my comp reports, and it doesn't involve refunding. I also label each order something obvious, like TESTTESTTEST so the kitchen knows not to make it.
