My restaurant is closed Mondays. Every Tuesday when I get to the store, I have at least a few tickets from people who accidentally ordered on a day we are closed. This is because it is not made clear enough to them when they open my online menu that we are not actually open that day. Is the info on there? Yes, but it is small, and should really behave like a forced pop-up / warning.
Toast Point Of Sales does a great job alerting you when you are placing an order when business is closed, by using the phrase "Schedule for Later" and forcing you to select that option if the restaurant is closed. Can Square please do something similar? It is disappointing for customers and an annoyance for us as we have to spend our first 30 minutes in house calling guests to confirm whether or not they intended to order their food 1 day ahead of time (shocker, usually not, because no one does that).
Attached some pictures of how it looks on Toast vs. Square. Note that while Square does say "Business Closed" it does not mention that you are ordering for a later time until the very final checkout screen, and even there it's easily overlooked.
This isn't an option you select, it just sits on the screen there. People don't notice it.
This is the final checkout screen.
Toast forces you to acknowledge that the order is not for "now".
I agree. This is an issue we have whenever we are closed for a holiday. It’s not obvious to the customer that the date is for tomorrow.
I AGREE 100%.
I became aware of this feature this past week so I entered the upcoming dates we will be closed including yesterday for Veterans Day.
I tested it on two fronts, attempting to place an advance order on a day that I marked as closed and it worked properly, it was grayed out and wouldn’t allow me to place an order on that date. Secondly, I attempted to place an order for same day and it was a shambles. Not only did it allow me to go through the motions instead of stated in red (when ordering is toggled off) it allowed me to go through the motions without any indication we were closed and at checkout, it stated my order would be ready for pickup “on the following day”. No indication that we were closed.
This is not acceptable! In fact, it’s worse than toggling the entire Store off.
I don’t know if this is helpful or not, but I change the copy of our front page, the one where you click “order now”, to state we are closed. I add a date to help with any confusion.
I know it’s not necessarily a technical fix but it has kept our customers from ordering on days we’re closed.
That’s a good idea and one I’ve used before but I do recommend that @Square fix this properly.
