We are a Square Online seller in Australia and we have found a structured data issue that may be affecting Google Merchant Center, Google Free Listings and Shopping visibility.
Square Online product pages appear to generate Product / Merchant Listing structured data, but the availability value appears to be incorrect for sold-out products.
Example:
Product:
Jellycat Bartholomew Bear Junior
Product URL:
https://www.cuddlecloud.au/product/jellycat-bartholomew-bear-junior/EQG7Q2AHWYWNJQ6C7YZKFMAI
The product is marked as Sold out in Square, has zero inventory, and the customer-facing Square Online product page clearly shows “Out of stock”.
However, Google’s Rich Results Test detects the Merchant Listing structured data as:
availability: http://schema.org/InStock
This means shoppers see the correct sold-out status on the page, but Google’s structured data parser is being told that the item is still in stock.
This may be contributing to incorrect product availability in Google Merchant Center, especially for products discovered through “Found by Google” rather than a proper Square-managed Merchant Center feed.
We also found stale products in Merchant Center that are still showing as Approved / In stock even though the Square Online product page now returns a 404.
Could Square please investigate:
1. Why sold-out Square Online products are outputting InStock in Product schema instead of OutOfStock?
2. Whether this is a known Square Online structured data issue?
3. Whether Australian Square Online sellers have a reliable way to sync the Square Online catalogue directly to an existing Google Merchant Center account?
4. Whether Square plans to provide a proper Google Merchant Center product feed / integration for Australia?
This is important for retailers using Square Online with Google Merchant Center, Free Listings and Performance Max campaigns.
Thank you.
