Hi — I’m trying to set up a member/coach discount program using Square customer QR-code scanning.
The intended workflow is:
Each member has a unique QR code in an Apple Wallet pass.
The QR code contains that customer’s Square Reference ID.
A server scans the code at checkout.
Square adds that customer to the sale and automatically applies their customer-group discount.
I can see the customer QR scanning option/scan icon on my iPhone, but I cannot find it at all on the iPad Pros our servers actually use.
I also do not see the “Scan customers using device camera” setting under the iPad’s checkout/customer-management settings.
The iPads are the important devices for us because we operate from them during service.
A few questions:
Is customer QR/barcode scanning supported on iPad Pro in Square for Restaurants / our current Square POS setup?
Is there a specific app mode, subscription level, device setting, or team permission required for the Scan customers using device camera option to appear?
If the camera option is not available on iPad, can a compatible Bluetooth barcode scanner scan a customer QR code into the Add Customer search flow instead?
Is the feature limited to the regular Square POS app versus Square for Restaurants?
I’ve reviewed Square’s instructions for customer QR/barcode identification, but the described iPad setting and scan icon are missing in our live server workflow. Any help identifying what controls availability on iPad would be appreciated.
