August 2026 Updates - Problems and Major Flow Flaws

High volume bartender using square here. Some of the recent changes have been less than smart from my perspective and have seriously impacted flow and speed (after using for long enough to adapt to the changes).

1. If the payment screen is accidentally accessed (happens often enough at speed or customer changes mind, etc) - ie: button to charge pre-authorized card is tapped and the tip screen shows - THERE IS NO WAY TO BACK OUT! There had been in previous versions. My options are to hard restart the app or using a different tablet to add to their tab. Very annoying.

2. BIG DEAL: the item quantity moved to top center of the tablet screen. There is almost no other circumstance in which either of my hands are near there. Left and right lower quadrants should be where these types of buttons are. Put it back.

3. WHY AM I SCROLLING!? 4 screens of modifier options are fine, ONLY IF ON SEPARATE PAGES. Required modifiers are much easier to miss - Iโ€™m not taken to next modifier in sequence automatically  anymore. I just sit, dead, on a long scroll page that I swipe up and down and up and wiggle to get to where I need. Itโ€™s more abstract and less simple and concrete to input orders.

4. Am I imagining it, or am I now unable to move one or two items from person As check to person Bs check? I can only move the entire check. Really? I HAVE to be missing something? ๐Ÿคจ

Our bar could not operate using the beta โ€œtip screen before payment presentedโ€ feature. Ugh, how awkward. We use mobile tablets, small handhelds and tablets on heavy stands; chip tap and swipe options both attached to tablet and reader separated in its own stand. 90% of the time we handle the card to begin payment or tabsโ€ฆpassing a tablet back and fourth across the bar and over cocktails to ask for a tip before they paid is: a: awkward and weird; b. More likely that people walk off without using a card. What do you always do last when you get a drink at the bar? Tip and take your drink.   Many times if Iโ€™m closing the order immediately, Iโ€™ll put the drinks in and get payment started as I get their drinks done since this removes wait time for the next in line and myself. Patron can tip then Or wait til last second, either way Iโ€™m not standing there playing hot potato with the tablet anymore. Payment done and tablet presented to customer and remains there until next in line shows and I can get their order in immediately. Very glad that was immediately reversible, it was awful for the one slow shift I tried to use it. Awkward all around.

There is more, but Iโ€™ll start with this for now. Hope the first few items are addressed immediately.

cheers!

this is really excellent feedback and while I'm a retail user and not a restaurant I've noticed often that changes don't seem to be grounded in practical application- this type of feedback gives engineers the user data required- and hopefully this data is asked for BEFORE changes are made- not after- moving forward.
