Basically the main takeaway is that payment links, which are now the only way to give customers hidden items (and keep them hidden), do not cut it.
Before items page migration to dashboard, there was an option to ‘copy item link’. This was wonderful.
After migration, I kept track of what number the item was up to and was able to type the URL out in full and find the hidden item. The URLs looked like this:
…/product/satin-lined-snood/192
So it was fairly simple, since I know the product name and approximate number to try.
now URLs look like this:
…/product/katherine-custom/UKKYCF2T2LI7AQCXGPY5W5FR
I cannot guess and check that jumble. So I’m left with two options:
1. Make item visible online, copy URL, hide it again. Not ideal for private custom orders.
2. Use the payment link system.
Payment links however, have many issues.
- initially support told me they were the new ‘copy item link’ so I sent it to the customer as usual, only to discover I need to set up a separate shipping cost specific to links. I had to cover that shipping myself.
- payment links do not allow customers to browse the website, shop additional products from my store, and add to cart multiple items.
- Payment links don’t send me an order notification email. And since it’s usually titled that ‘this is a copy of the email that your customers received’, and I’ve had customers ask if the order actually went through, I assume customers also don’t get any order confirmation.
Please Please Pleaseeeee. Add a copy item link option or change the URLs back to simpler form.
80% of my business is custom orders using hidden items and it’s been really frustrating discovering all these issues.
