This isn’t a new idea—it’s a long-standing request from Square users going back at least to 2018, probably earlier. Despite widespread interest, it continues to be ignored while our costs with Square keep rising.
We are once again asking for a “Round Up to Donate” feature—a simple button within Square POS that allows customers to round their total (e.g., from $14.55 to $15.00), with the difference ($0.45) automatically logged as a separate line item in reporting. That amount could then be earmarked by business owners for donations to local nonprofits or community causes.
This feature:
Supports community impact through customer engagement.
Helps us create and promote goodwill-driven campaigns tied directly to in-store purchases.
Automatically includes taxes and simplifies the transaction—no mental math, no manual workarounds.
Allows Square to continue collecting processing fees on every additional dollar run through the system—because we’re the ones doing the legwork. We’re the ones marketing these promotions, getting customers in the door, and running money through Square. All we’re asking is for the functionality to support it.
It’s frustrating that threads like this get locked or redirected with comments suggesting we “just use a variable amount button.” That’s not a real solution in busy, high-volume environments.
We’re not asking for a workaround—we’re asking for the right tools. The demand is clear. It’s time Square listened.
