How to change the display name of an item on the Online Store?

So I have items in my menu that I named a certain way for my staff, but I don't want them to appear with those names on my online store.  I don't currently see a way to do that.  Does anyone know if there is a way?  If I change the item name on the online store, it synchronizes and changes it from my Library as well.

 

For example, lets say I have Cheeseburger in my item library, but on the online store I want to give it a name like Johns Famous Cheeseburger, can I do that without renaming the item in my library as well?

Thank you for posting in the Community! 

 

There are a few things you can turn off when it comes to the Square Sync between your Dashboard and Online Store. 

 

Go to your Online Store > Settings > Square Sync.

 

Unfortunately, the Item Name isn't one you can turn off. What you're asking would be a Feature Request; which I would be happy to tag as such. 

Absolutely please do request this feature.  It seems like a very easy thing to implement in the database, they just need to add another field for the label, and done.

This is a must for Square as most restaurants name things much differently in their POS than on their menu.  In my pizza shop we sell by the slice or by the whole pie.  Categorizing a "Cheese" in slices and a "Cheese" in Pies would would work except for the KDS prints out only "Cheese" and the kitchen does not know whether to make a slice or a whole pie.

 

Our work around is to list it  as "Cheese - Slice" and "Cheese - Pie" and it works for the kitchen, but makes listing it on the website a bit undesirable as we have some long "creative" names for our pizzas (the "cheese" is only and example).  

 

Could you let us know the status about updating the display name. It is very important to have display name as customer friendly and internal name is friendly with kitchen staff.

Any updates on this? We have this issue as well. Square has updated the kitchen facing name when people are ordering in store through our POS. However, the online orders (of which we have way more nowadays) are still printing the full customer display name which sucks for kitchen staff and tickets printing the customer facing name for everything. Can the online orders have the same "kitchen facing name" option. We just use the basic Square POS, not the restaurants one, but again, it's working with in-store POS orders - we'd just like it across the board. We have to be more descriptive with everything so the online customers can better understand what they are getting. Thank you!

Hi, any updates on this? Would love this a a retail store as well. We have a way of naming items so if we need to search for them when ringing it up we can find it but its not a good system for customers when they are shopping online. 

Any updates on this 4 year old feature request? This is more relevant with KDS now as Abbreviations of menu items are a must. But we can not have cream of crab soup on the online menu as c.o.c. If we keep it cream of crab soup it takes up way more room on kds in return making less efficient to chefs. 

Is there an update on this? We have a vendor number we add to product titles that is for our use only, it becomes confusing to have random numbers after the item names online. Being able to have a "label" field instead of being stuck with the automatically pulled in item name would be very very helpful.
