I wanted to let you know that, since you are in desperate (immediate?) need to this feature, if you head over to the Square App Marketplace and search for "event" you'll see a lot of third-party apps that offer this integration with Square. A couple even have free tiers that might work for you. So you could implement something now while you wait for Square to make a decision. Even if they decide to jump into these waters, the design, coding, and testing processed will take many months. Best of luck.

As another commenter mentioned, a standalone event ticketing tool is the way to go. Square alone gets limiting fast. Check us out (TicketsCandy), we're fully integrated with Square and give you proper ticketing, check-in, reporting, and way more flexibility for events )
