Disabling right-click & downloading product images in Online Store

I'm a photographer and sell my art/prints via Online Store. I would like a way to easily disable right-click of images to prevent people downloading images and potentially using them elsewhere/selling them as their own etc. Having a water defeats the purpose of trying to sell a print and can obstruct the image/design etc.

Hi @CaitlinA

Thanks for raising this! It's a common concern, especially for creatives like yourself who are selling visual work online.

While Square Online doesn’t currently offer a built-in feature to disable right-click or image downloading, here are a few suggestions that may help reduce the risk of image misuse:

1. Use Display-Only Image Formats
Consider uploading lower-resolution versions of your images for display. These will still look good on-screen for browsing, but won't be suitable for high-quality printing if someone tries to download and reuse them.

2. Overlay Your Branding Subtly
Instead of a full watermark, a subtle brand mark or signature in the corner of the image might strike a balance. It’s a bit more low-key for your customers, but still shows it's your work.

3. Include a Copyright Notice
A simple footer note or message near your images like “All images © [Your Name]. Unauthorised use prohibited.” can help reinforce that the work is protected, even if it won’t stop everyone.

While no method is 100% secure against image misuse online, combining these approaches can help deter casual downloaders while improving your customer browsing experience.

In the meantime, I’ve made sure your feedback has been passed along to our Product Team.
