Credit Card hold

I found a thread from 6 years ago customers wanting a feature where we can take a customers credit card and place a hold on it and it seems it hasn’t come to fruition. I have recently started a hire business and we take refundable security deposits for our excavators, trailers etc however at the moment we have to take the persons money off their card and then refund it to them resulting in a cost to the customer or ourselves for transaction fees and then the customer has to wait 7-14 days to receive their money back. A credit card hold feature would be really handy. Can we get this?

Right now, Square Appointments doesn’t support pre-authorising cards or collecting security deposits. I know this has been a request from Sellers for some time, but it isn’t on our development roadmap at the moment.

That said, we’re still advocating for this feature and passing along the feedback. I wish I had a more tailored workaround for you, but for now, charging and then refunding the deposit is the best option we can offer.
