Allow multiple 301 redirects to the same URL

Allow multiple 301 redirects to the same URL

I need to be able to redirect multiple URLs to the same page. My products are unique, and as they sell out, their pages 404. I want to be able to redirect those 404 pages to the general category page, but Square doesn't allow multiple URLs to redirect to the same page. The only way to maybe work around it currently is to create a serious of redirect chains, which is horrible SEO best practice. But every other website platform I've heard of has this functionality or allows you to install plug-ins that enable this functionality.

I second this, not having the ability to redirect old dead pages to a single page assumes that 1) The site structure will never migrate or change and 2) Items once created are never permanently removed. The thing that would make this more easily handled for my use case would be to properly support wildcards in url redirects. Good example:  redirect shop/parent-category/old-child-category/* to /shop/parent-category/. The other thing that gets problematic is the necessity for the identifier string to be contained in the url, as it is more problematic for url sharing and clean seo / mapping. I understand why that is the case, when data can change on the back end and is immediately reflected on the front end (so the name is actually ignored for resolving the identity of the category or item, it is for display in the url only), but again, that makes for a bad user experience and can be problematic for SEO.
