Ability to delete locations

Ability to delete locations

I made a mistake and added an extra location. I do not want it in my drop down selection boxes. I want to remove the extra location not just deactive it! I want it gone!

To be able to permanently delete a location

hi,

As a new user of Square I try out new features, I accidentally added a location because my first location had issues linking to google. It's frustrating to not be able to delete the location when I entered it as a sample location. I also don't have a physical location for my business so I don't want extra locations there because it creates confusion for bookkeeping purposes. There should be a feature to completely just delete the location. I know there is an inactive feature but I don't want to see the location there.

I have same issue with invoices too as I created a wrong invoice which was sent then cancelled and is unable to delete which again affects my financial statements.

Square should be more flexible and allow users to learn and make mistakes and then delete it.

Re: How do I delete a location?

I am frustrated with the location option. I am the owner and some how I am listed as the location. Now I cannot see my inventory or update my inventory. I am afraid to deactivate location for myself because I am concerned I may lose everything. All I want to do is see my inventory and update it.

@brick Could you point me to I go on this rate increase? I don't recall hearing that one was coming.

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything about upcoming rate increases either.

I should have been more specific. Significant rate increases planned for heavy users of the Loyalty program... Moving to a partipant-based pricing plan: the more customers in the plan, the higher the rate. But this is just salt in the wound on top af all the features that are still missing and the hidden flaws.  At least as far as our needs and experience is concerned

Do you have a link or source for that, brick? Would be good to get clear details.

I am literally almost in tears laughing here! I clicked "love" your post, and a screen popped up, asking me which location I was "loving" from! :'D This "location" has been deactivated for 2 years, since Square aggrivated the absolute tar out of me to "add locations" in the first few weeks I was using it. I added one, just to shut them up, then found out I couldn't delete it!! Honestly, I wish I would've just dealt with THAT aggrivation, because this stupid non-existent location has done nothing but make me miserable when editing product spreadsheets, and basically ANYTHING else I do on Square!! Figures. Such a simple solution to an enormous problem that is basically being ignored! PayPal isn't this annoying as a processor. I'm just staying.

However, you might want to let folks know that it isn't "really" inactive when they deactivate. Although, I'm sure they know that by now, if they've edited product spreadsheets, exported their product lists, or posted here 😉

Well, if we had the ability to do our own "deep overhaul" and completely delete our own square account after downloading all our transactions, then start a new one with the same email address, WITHOUT the phantom locations, and avoiding the "add location" prompt like the plague; it would work. A lot more work than just deactivating the whole square payment system account and moving on to something else, I guess 😉

Make that like 4 years! Even when a location was legitimately an actual location; we're working on going past the time the IRS requires you to keep the records for a "closed store". That's when a permanent location was added on purpose and transactions were processed. What about everyone (my case) that was pushed via constant email barrage to "add locations", when we knew we would never actually HAVE a second location, and only did it to stop the emails, but NEVER processed a single transaction through this "location"? I can completely understand deleting a location being severely difficult, with transactions being tied to that location. However, a huge number of people never used this "location", and have no need to save financial data from it, and there's nothing difficult for Square to program in regards to deleting these, IF there's never been anything processed from it. This is rediculous!! It's obviously not going to be fixed, and I am at my witts end with this! There's no reason at all to have to manage inventory for a location that was never there! The cheerful answer is that "you cannot delete, but you can deactivate! yay!"

Negative. At least not in the manner in which we believe things are "deactivated". The stupid thing STILL shows up in products, still shows when processing. It's NOT truly deactivated!!

While "Locations" would be wonderful for a larger business, with several retail stores or websites; it makes zero sense for those of us with only one of each. Locations is pushed VERY hard in the early days of a new account, and nothing (at least not 2 years ago) was stated about the inability to delete, or ever see this location again. People with their own businesses test things to see what works for them. So, when "Locations" is pushed, they want to try it; whether they have multiple locations or not. Maybe they want to eventually, who knows. When we "test" things and find they don't work; we obliterate them from everything but our brains' filing cabinet of "things that didn't work". However, Square makes this impossible by not giving us the ability to remove locations.

The "workaround" of deactivation is less than ideal to say the very LEAST. It's become a nightmare! It wastes time, which is money in a small business owner's world. It wastes time all the way around. When adding a new product, you have to make sure that your phantom location is completely blank of ANYTHING in the excel spreadsheet, well, except for the "N" in all the columns related to that deactivated location. When posting regarding this, you have to choose a location, which is just a big ole bucket of irony all by itself. Had to do this WHILE logged into my active location! Seriously? There are NO transactions in my phantom location titled "forced add - no good", just to make sure I NEVER choose it by mistake.

I would be willing to delete my account entirely and start over, IF I were able to use my email all over, after I downloaded my transaction history, which somehow I doubt. But truthfully; it would be a whole lot less work than what I go through with this thing regularly, so it would be worth it.
