Ability to delete locations

Ability to delete locations

I made a mistake and added an extra location. I do not want it in my drop down selection boxes. I want to remove the extra location not just deactive it! I want it gone!

To be able to permanently delete a location

hi,

As a new user of Square I try out new features, I accidentally added a location because my first location had issues linking to google. It's frustrating to not be able to delete the location when I entered it as a sample location. I also don't have a physical location for my business so I don't want extra locations there because it creates confusion for bookkeeping purposes. There should be a feature to completely just delete the location. I know there is an inactive feature but I don't want to see the location there.

I have same issue with invoices too as I created a wrong invoice which was sent then cancelled and is unable to delete which again affects my financial statements.

Square should be more flexible and allow users to learn and make mistakes and then delete it.

Re: How do I delete a location?

I am frustrated with the location option. I am the owner and some how I am listed as the location. Now I cannot see my inventory or update my inventory. I am afraid to deactivate location for myself because I am concerned I may lose everything. All I want to do is see my inventory and update it.

This comment is simply not true. I can't believe it has taken Square 2 years and they still have not solved this issue. I have 3 extra "locations" that were set up just to try to look for better efficiencies and now I am stuck with locations that will not be deleted because Square has determined it is not going to do them...when there are 76 comments from your Customer saying they need it. Talk to your Quality Department or Consultant, have they ever heard of Voice of the Customer? I use this to sell merchandise for a rescue, the people the use this in my organization are not tech savvy people and I am trying my hardest to keep the tech illiterate board out of this because they will wreak havoc. If you can't delete them, which it will save space for Square in the long run, at least let us hide them so no one uses them inadvertently.

@Andrea_EpicEnt I'm really sorry to hear that you're not able to use Dubsado with your account. It sounds like you've been in touch with our CS team already and they should have escalated this to our engineering team for you to double check, or filed a feature request for this issue to be fixed in future. (If not do give us a call so we can file your request.)

@FFGDR Thanks for your post about this too and apologies for the trouble this is causing in your organization. I agree that it would be great to be able to hide or delete inactive locations altogether and we are sharing all of the posts in this thread with the appropriate product teams. We will keep advocating for this change for you!

In the meantime, if you deactivate a location it shouldn't appear from the list of options when you sign into the app or Dashboard (you will still see deactivated locations from the Dashboard under Account & Settings > Locations > and filter by Status: All). If you or your colleagues are seeing deactivated locations when signing in please call our CS team directly so we can fix this for you.

There is, currently, no way to delete an inactive location. From what I can tell browsing the forums here, there is significant demand for the ability to do so, and has been for upwards of two years now. Why Square hasn't done anything about it yet eludes me, but regardless of their reasoning, I'd like to put in a formal feature request for it (if this is the wrong forum, please let me know where I should be posting instead).

Square, an inactive location does nothing but get underfoot and take up storage space on your servers. Please give your users the ability to do something about it. The fact that this is even still an issue after two years is incredibly disappointing.

This is not true. I've read every single one of these posts in this very long thread, all of which say "read Kelly's post, we can't fix it, many reasons".

There can be many technical reasons that a created location can not be deleted.

This has been a known issue for more than two years.

You need to do the following.

1. Warn users that once a location is created, it can not be deleted. This is less than twenty minutes of work on your end.

2. You need to set it so that a deactivated location does not appear on an option list for actions such as signing in to your forum to complain about the inability to delete a location, or to give permission to a 3rd party app, etc, or to ask 'which location a new product applies to', etc.

3. You need to "ignore" deactivated locations from reporting, or set it so that they can be ignored as an option.

In my case, the system created a location in error in the name of my email address rather than the information I entered so I saw I had two, I deactivated one, and was surprised to see it pop up often. This is one of the things that would prevent me using your service, the fact that you've known about it for so long and have not provided a roadmap indicating you take seriously the need to provide even a workaround.

N.B. No workaround has been provided by any of you. I understand it not being a priority in terms of full resolution, i.e. the ability to have 'multi-location businesses' and 'single-location businesses', but there are many easy workarounds suggested by users, all of which have clearly been ignored, as per the references to irrelevant and unhelpful information.

I think the point is that while attempting to join the conversation (kudos, comment, or reply), yes you have to log in, but you are still asked to select from your locations, active AND inactive! Thus proving that previous comments about how this should not happen are not accurate.

I too want to have an option to delete my tester 3 locations as well as one location closing! you must give faith to others decision to delete these! I am so surprised you make us wade threw this! Please! you can see many people want this offered. Thank you

I want the ability to delete locations as well. But seeing as it’s been over 3 years since this thread was begun, I’m not sure it’s really possible without a deep system overhaul. It’d be nice to know though.

STILL no update on this???  This thread is over 2 years old!  How come this is being ignored, and why is such a simple request allowed to sit in the queue without any action?

Can someone from Square please address this basic request...

Agreed.  It is becoming glaringly apparent Square doesn't give a crap about anything its users (and customers!) want.  Every time a shortcoming is identified, Square reps whip out the canned-response book.  Never any action.  Getting sick of being ignored.

Indeed.  There are so many open issues and outages on a consistent basis (and those are the ones we know about - I've uncovered many that are completely brushed aside and never made public)  We're leaving at the end of the year - before the massive rate increase. We're a fairly large account - guaranteed no one there will care.  There are plenty of unsuspecting new accounts that can be milked without Square having to fix anything for the larger accounts that figure out the scam.
