Ability to delete locations

I made a mistake and added an extra location. I do not want it in my drop down selection boxes. I want to remove the extra location not just deactive it! I want it gone!

To be able to permanently delete a location

As a new user of Square I try out new features, I accidentally added a location because my first location had issues linking to google. It's frustrating to not be able to delete the location when I entered it as a sample location. I also don't have a physical location for my business so I don't want extra locations there because it creates confusion for bookkeeping purposes. There should be a feature to completely just delete the location. I know there is an inactive feature but I don't want to see the location there.

 

I have same issue with invoices too as I created a wrong invoice which was sent then cancelled and is unable to delete which again affects my financial statements. 

 

Square should be more flexible and allow users to learn and make mistakes and then delete it.

I am frustrated with the location option. I am the owner and some how I am listed as the location. Now I cannot see my inventory or update my inventory. I am afraid to deactivate location for myself because I am concerned I may lose everything. All I want to do is see my inventory and update it.

@Ria I would love to see this feature!!!! I am also very frustrated that I cannot delete the old location of my business that closed over 2 years ago!!! Seems like this should be a pretty basic feature.

@sayra I absolutely want to see this feature. I closed one of my business locations permanently over 2 years ago, however it still shows in locations drop down. Super annoying and also makes for some confusion with some of the other features like marketing and customer loyalty. I have not subscribed to many of squares other features because of the confusion this causes. Should be a pretty basic feature. If you can easily add a location, you should also be able to easily delete them.

I also would like the ability to delete any 'test' settings, such as locations.  While reading the help files gives a lot of information, there are things that are still a bit unclear.  I think it is a common practice to try settings, such as adding locations, to see if that configuration is going to have the desired results.  When it doesn't, I want to be able to remove those locations or test transactions.  Leaving them deactivated causes confusion and misrepresents your 'true data'.  I am a business that does not have a 'brick and mortar' store front.  I sell online and as a vendor at several expos.  My inventory should be 'shared' across all locations as that would depict actual inventory.

We mistakenly created a second location per a request for updating a nickname in Jan 2025 from square on the dashboard (I unfortunately did what I was directed to do and it led to the creation of  new location).  we have not done anything with this "location" except deactivate it immediately, however it keeps showing up as an option in varying aspects on the dashboard and is very confusing.  can square staff delete it entirely on the "square side" for us.   I also feel other companies could benefit from this "whoops" no matter how it was created.  This has been requested since 2016 that I can find.

Feature request or back end ability to fix. 

 

We mistakenly created a second location per a request for updating a nickname in Jan 2025 from square on the dashboard (I unfortunately did what I was directed to do (you do not have a nickname for your location, thinking it was for my only location) and it led to the creation of new location).  we have not done anything with this "location" except deactivate it immediately, however it keeps showing up as an option in varying aspects on the dashboard (and on the community help side online) and is very confusing.  can square staff delete it entirely on the "square side" for us.   I also feel other companies could benefit from this "whoops" no matter how it was created.  This has been requested since 2016 that I can find.

I agree with this.  I made a 2nd location shortly after creating my Square account.  I called it Warehouse so I could Identify Items in the showrrom over things in the Warehouse Stockroom.  Right after creating I realized this would not work for me since they both had the same physical address and I also deactivated it very quickly.  Since about 2020 I have done nothing with the Warehouse.  Everytime I log in at asks me to chioose a location.   This would be great if it was an ACTIVE location.  Then all my report also let me filter by an Inactive location also?  If it is In active, why have it as a Filter, Why have it as a login? Why not have a Backoffice area to select it back to Active.  Also why is the default set to show Deactive and Active locations?  If it is deactivated why would it be in a report or filter unless selected.  Like when creating a New Item, where is it available to be sold.... All Locations or select a Location.  Why is A deactivated location also listed as a choice?

 

I understand Square needs to keep records of this for reasons, but why can't Inactive locations be removed from Daily business activities unless a business wants to see what was sold an a PREVIOUS (inactive Location).  Square wants business with Employees and have Payroll as an option.  Some employees may not realize there WAS and old location and accidentally put New Items in it to be sold since it shows as a choice.  I can not have a Defualt of New items be sold at all Locations and have to select my Main active location since 2020 because of my Inactive Warehouse Location.  Have a Default slider in the Back office that the owner can select to see this as a option on reports and when getting new inventory.  

 

This is a Pain and if I had a Location then added more locations and then sold off 1 or 2 that were not performing well, I would not want it to keep being a reminder by my Credit card processor for each Report as a Filter.

I support what @freezeways has suggested as a "feature request" and I definitely 2nd what @Candlestore spelled out so beautifully. I too, inadvertently created a "location" that was not really necessary when first starting with Square and starting my small business. Even though I have classified this location as "inactive" it continues to show up in ways that are both odd and annoying. One perfect example, is every time I have to "sign in" to the Square Community, it ask me which "location" I'm signing in from.... UGH!!
There is only one active location that I use and apparently Square doesn't provide an option to either "Delete" that location forever OR modify how a "inactive location" shows up in the UI of their expanded Square Universe.
If a location is identified as "inactive" then I judge it should be hidden from any and all access and especially any type of usage.
