Re-import existing customers

I added a new custom property to my customer profile and now I need to update all customer records but I don't want to edit each customer manually.

Can I export my customers, edit the csv file with new data (and to match the import template) then import without duplicating all my customers?

I tried using the "Reference Number" from the export and hoped it would act as a key in the import, but it did not work. Can I use the "Square Customer ID" value from the export as the identifier on the import?

This I am not sure if it is available.  I created a custom field in the Customers file, I can see it at a pos or in my customers on a computer, but not at all in the export.  So I am not sure if that will even export the custom field to add it to all other users.  You may have to add it individually.  The only alternative I see is the Memo Field, instead of using the Custom field you created.

In your Custom Field can you add something you would remember and the export your Customers csv file and see if you can see that?

You should be able just to update and the reinport that, as I am not sure which column Square uses as a Key for the customers csv file.

With Square you do not just upload the Key column and the Column you edit but you upload all columns again.

Keith,

I appreciate your reply. Unfortunately, it doesn't really help me or provide insight into how I could proceed.

Hopefully someone else has been down this path before.

Thanks

The insight on how to proceed would be to edit each customer 1 by 1.

The Custom Field you created would not Show at all as a field in the Customer csv export.  Therefore this field could not be added nor edited.

My suggestion was to Export your Customer file as a csv, edit the Column of Memo.  Then save the file and reupload it to Square.  Doing this would not show the data entered in the Custom Field you created but would show in the Memo section on Square.

Here is a link to import export your customers in Square:

Hello @CherryTreeTatto - You can export all or some of your customer profiles, edit the custom fields in the CSV, and import the same file. As long as you don't modify the Square Customer ID column in the file, this won't create duplicate profiles. The Square Customer ID column works as the key for the customer profiles.

If you haven't done so already, perhaps you could try this with a small group of customers, by exporting a group, and trying to edit them.

Please let us know if you continue to face any issues.
