Loyalty Program Sign Up Bonus

Hi All!

 

I have a bit of a conundrum on my hands.  I just switched over to Square from another POS and I am trying to transfer over the loyalty program from our old POS.  In our old POS loyalty program, to respect customer privacy we looked you up by last name, so I have no phone numbers, addresses, etc, and many listings don't have an email associated.  With that in mind, my problem has two parts:

 

Part 1:  I have loads of customers who had accrued points in our old system.  They are super loyal customers and I would like to transfer their point earnings over to the new Square Loyalty program.  Is there a way to do this in bulk?

 

Part 2: Since folks are having to re-sign up for our loyalty program on Square, I'd like to give them some sort of incentive for re-signing up, i.e a few bucks off their next purchase.  Our basic loyalty program is structured so that for every $X spent in-store, you get $Y off your next purchase but since the Square loyalty program allows for only one way to accrue points, I am stuck leaving that as "Earn $ for visit."  Is there a way to offer a sign up bonus?  Or is there a workaround possible using either e-gift cards or coupon codes?

Hello @Emilyschocolate thanks for your post. I do not think there is a way to bulk import information into the Loyalty program. My best suggestion to you will require some manual working getting your current customers setup in the program, but once they are in your Square Loyalty system, everything is pretty automated. Are you able to export data from your current program so you'd have any info for your records before you start your new Square Loyalty program?

 

I would create a form slip that your customers can fill out that would be a kind of "Request to transfer points" from the old system into the new system. They could fill out name, address, phone, etc. that you'd want to capture. (Note: the loyalty program is tracked by a customers phone number.) This is a great benefit since you currently do not have access to this valuable information. You can also note on this form that for completing it, you would give them XX amount of bonus points. When you create or add them into the loyalty program, you can manually edit their point balance and add their bonus points. You could also have a store raffle, where you would enter all the paper slips into a drawing to receive a store gift card or raffle item.

 

Do you currently use a POS like Square on a tablet or Square Register? Those make it super easy with using a customer facing screen for your customers to sign up for your new loyalty program. Also, there is a setting within the Loyalty program that you can grant an extra point if your new enrolls give you their email address, they will get an extra point. This is a super cool automated feature that works like this: once a customer signs up with their phone number, they get a message to add their email address to get this extra point.

 

Rolling out a new store program will be a lot of work, but it can also give a lot of back to your marketing efforts. Play this up as much as possible and advertise all of the exciting new benefits, will increase engagement and make this a successful launch.

To answer your question, we've actually already rolled everything over to Square and I have integrated in most of the folks who had pre-existing points with us but didn't realize that just because you import in customers, doesn't mean they're enrolled in the rewards portion of the program.  I just assumed the rollover of the rewards program would be "easy".  Insert words about assumptions here.  I am okay with manually adding people in, it will just take some time.  

 

Thank you so so much for the suggestion on how to get folks to re-enroll in rewards while honoring previously accrued points and bonus points.  I have been racking my brain for several days now trying to figure out how to transition people over fairly.  Your suggestion totally works and is actually a perfect way yet simple way for us to get folks re-enrolled and I can roll out a quick questionnaire via email to our mailing list subscribers to get those folks back in the system.  I'm excited! 🙂

You could also make % or $ discount in Square that you could take off when the person hands in their information for resigning up to the loyalty program with email and phone number as your incentive for getting them to re-enroll.  Or do something like HC_Charlie has suggested.
