Importing document in to directory for all clients, phone numbers not working!

I am struggling to import clients from another system in to my square directory. My file wouldn't work, so I have utilised the square import template. No matter what, it still comes up with an error:

Error preview
Phone number not formatted as 12122542246 or 1-212-254-2246, has a missing or invalid area code or is an international number that’s missing a country code.

I have tried all the possible ways over the last 2 weeks, it is very frustrating.

Hi @embeauty!

I'm so sorry to hear you hit a few snags while trying to import your customer list. We cover a few basic troubleshooting steps in our online guide under 'Bulk Import Customers'.

First, just to confirm, are you importing Australian numbers?

If so, they'll need to be formatted with the country code, like this:

  • 61412345678
  • (Country code 61 + mobile number without the leading 0)

The key things to check are:

 

  • Include the country code (61)
  • Remove any leading zeros (used only domestically)
  • Remove all spaces and dashes
  • Check for any hidden or extra spaces before or after the number in the cell

If you've already tried the above and are still seeing the same error, I recommend reaching out to our Support Team directly, they’ll be able to help troubleshoot further via email.

Alternatively, depending on how many customers you're importing, a quick workaround would be to import the list without phone numbers and add them manually later. Of course, this only works if the list isn’t too large! I wouldn't suggest this path for a bigger customer base.
