How do you send a text message campaign to a group of customers?

HI all.

I have elected to use the text message option and need to know how to do a group text?  How do I pick multiple customers to send a message to via text?

Hey Deborah! 👋 Great question — using text messages to reach your customers is super effective!

Right now in Square Marketing, you can send SMS/text campaigns, but there’s no “group text” feature in the traditional sense — like a phone-based group chat. Instead, you’ll create a text message campaign and send it to a group of selected customers through Square’s dashboard.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Go to Square Dashboard > Marketing
   Click Create Campaign and choose the Text Message option.

2. Select Your Audience
   You can choose:

   • All customers

   • By segment (like “Customers who haven’t visited in 60 days”), OR

   • Custom audience (manually select multiple people from your customer list)

3. Compose Your Message
   Keep it short and engaging — SMS has a character limit. Square will show you how many people you’re sending to.

4. Send or Schedule
   You can schedule it to go out later, or send it right away.

✅ Note: You’ll need to be on Square’s Text Message Marketing plan, and customers must have opted in to receive SMS.

Just to add to what @Stacelyn24 has already shared, before your customers can receive text message campaigns, they will need to consent to receiving SMS marketing text messages, which they can do through your point of sale after a transaction. If you're using Square, you can send a text marketing campaign to a group of customers through Square Marketing, provided your customers have opted in to receive marketing messages.

Generally, you’ll want to create or select the customer group/segment, choose your message repeater campaign, write your message, and review the recipients before sending. Make sure the customers have given the appropriate consent for marketing texts.

If you're trying to reach a specific group (for example, customers who purchased a particular product), using customer groups or segments can make the campaign much easier to manage.
