Filter customers by city

Previously, I have been able to create a smart group and filter customers by city (in this case, I wanted to send a marketing email to everyone but customers within a specific city).  This has been working for the past few years, but I noticed this year that the ability to do this was gone.

 

Is this a glitch or was this ability to sort customers by address (like city) removed?  If removed, is it something that will be coming back?

Hi @pondcountry ! 

 

You're correct that this was previously available. Square recently made some changes to customer filtering options, and while some location-based filtering capabilities have been temporarily limited, there are several workarounds you can use:

  1. Alternative Filtering Methods:

    • Use Custom Fields to tag customers by city
    • Create groups based on postal/ZIP codes
    • Use the Directory feature to organize customers geographically
  2. Temporary Workaround Using Custom Fields:

    1. Go to Customers > Settings > Custom Fields
    2. Create a new Custom Field for "City"
    3. Bulk update your customer profiles with city information
    4. Create Smart Groups using this Custom Field
  3. Export-Import Method:

    • Export your customer list to CSV
    • Filter by city in a spreadsheet
    • Create a group from the filtered list
    • Import this as a new customer group
