Email Signup, Auto Reply

Hello, When customers sign up for my email newsletter, I want them to receive an automatic email offering a coupon. After talking to four Square Customer Service Reps, apparently there's no way to do it. Does anyone know a good workaround?

 

To the Square Staff: Can it be added to the Marketing plan?? People have asked since 2022 and its a pretty standard benefit on web builders

Hey there @camillee565.  So, I have explored and had to discard three different semi-automated workarounds I thought of.  For each one I ran into a roadblock.  So, I’m going to give you a workaround that will require some manual work (weekly?).  But first, you can submit formal feature requests at this link.  Submit that to the marketing team and, when you do, please come back here and post the link to it.  I will definitely upvote it and add my comments.  Now to my workaround which works, but takes a little work.

 

First, create a limited use marketing coupon so that you have a code you can email to new subscribers.  Then, from you web dashboard home page go to Online > Website > Form Submissions.  Click on the list called “Subscription.”   This will give you a list of subscribers from most recent to least recent.  Ignore any entries with blank email addresses as these are “Square network users” that have not given permission to share their email addresses with us but who as quite often automatically subscribed to our email lists after a purchase.

 

Start an email using your email app.  Copy/paste new email addresses (since the last time you did this) to the BCC (blind carbon copy) line so that no one but you can see them.  (This is important — make sure you use the BCC line, not the TO or CC lines.). Craft your email, including the coupon code you created above, then send it.

 

Like I said — it’s not elegant, but it has the virtue of giving you the capability you need now, especially since feature requests are for future releases of Square and never happen immediately.
