Why is the battery on my hardware not holding ?

  • Every morning dead battery, keep it always on charger or don’t take clients money. Your choice?

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the battery of your Square hardware. Could you confirm which hardware you are using exactly ? In the meantime, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • make sure your hardware or app is up to date,
  • perform a factory reset on your hardware (make sure you don't have offline payments before proceeding),
  • use a different charger,
  • plug the charger into a different socket.

 

If you continue to experience the same issues after trying these steps, I invite you to contact our Support Team by email or phone to verify if you are eligible for a warranty exchange.

How old is your device?

 

Batteries always die after a while if they are used a lot.  If your reader is less than a year old you should contact Square for service, but if you've been using it every day for a while then it will definitely die out.

 

One thing I've found with mine is that when it is not in use it still tries to find a Bluetooth connection, so if it sits in the box for a week or so then it's 100% dead.  I always plan to charge it or run it plugged in when I'm starting a new event.
