We are @MamiesToffee run a “mobile candy store - concessions” truck. We use iPhone hotspot haven’t had any real issues. We have tried mobile hotspot devices they failed. That was several years ago may e now they are better.
We find that as long as the phone is near the device it stays connected. That being said we have had issues this year as I’m in a area where cell service is spotty at best I can get two bars if I walk around, for the most I really get one bar. We reached out to Verizon was told to turn on roaming, it really didn’t help.
As for buying a iPad with cell service. Our truck gets shut down in December till Spring, We wouldn’t want to pay for a cell bill while the truck isn’t running. Stay with your hotspot turn it on walk away from the phone. Turn on do not disturb so no calls come in or text.
We hope this helps.
We have been hot spotting our phones for years.
Ooooooh! A drink truck! Never seen one of those! That sounds interesting! Tell us more!! And welcome!
Hi! I'm Christine and new to the Square community. I write Christian non-fiction books (www.ChristineTate.com). Most of my sales are royalty driven and handled through Amazon, but I'm going to be attending the Sonrise Music Festival in Virginia Beach as a vendor, so need a POS system to take credit cards. Does anyone know if this system needs a strong internet link or if it simply stores data in the phone until you can get to a better internet connection if there isn't one available (i.e., low bars)?
Hi @CTAuthor1.. Welcome to the Community. When configured properly, Square POS will take cards in what is known as offline mode. However, you should be aware of a few things:
Here is more information about processing in offline mode, provided by Square AI:
Square's offline mode lets you accept payments without an internet connection. When enabled before losing connection, your device starts an offline session automatically. Payments are stored and processed once you're back online. Offline payments work with most major cards but exclude Afterpay, Cash App Pay, Square Gift Cards, and manually-entered cards. You have up to 24 hours to accept and upload offline payments depending on your hardware. Notifications show session time left, except on Square Register and Terminal.
For details, see:

Thanks for the information. How do I mark it as Best Answer? (Sorry, new to the site and still learning)
Next to the answer is a button that says mark as best answer.
Welcome and good luck with your booth! I just recently heard about the Sonrise Music Fest. Great place to be!
Are you in Virginia Beach too?
No, Montana. I cannot remember how I heard about that festival but I'm thinking it was on The Message. it's what I listen to in the car and I think that Olivia Lane was talking about someone performing at it.
