Tap to pay on iPhone (Canada)

Has anyone actually got this to work? I have struggled for 3 days to find the option to turn this on.

Hi again @rcmtreasurer - I reached out to our Tap to Pay team so they could take a look at this.

They've let me know that Tap to Pay will need to be enabled by the Square Account Owner, before it can be enabled for the rest of your Team Members. You can do this by signing in to the Square app, using the Account Owner log in info and following the steps we provided previously. If you have multiple business locations where you'd like to use Tap to Pay, you'll need to enable this for each location.

Please do let me know if you have any additional questions 🙂

Hi @rcmtreasurer, thanks for posting and welcome to the Seller Community.

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to use Tap to Pay on your iPhone.

Can you confirm you've followed the steps from this support article to enable Tap to Pay through the Square POS app ? In addition, make sure that:

  • Your iPhone is compatible and running the latest iOS software - you can check the compatibility here.
  • The POS app is up-to-date in More > Support > About.
  • You have set a passcode for your iPhone by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode.

Can you let me know if this helped resolve your issue ?

Tried all that. The menu options described do not exist on the app as provided to Canadian users.

I don't have an iPhone, but had several team members with appropriate permissions attempt this with ongoing support from the Square Technical Support team. No one could find the option to turn on Tap to Pay with iPhone.

@rcmtreasurer - Thanks for providing these extra details.

The steps that were initially provided by @Lou8 are specifically for enabling Tap to Pay from the iPhone settings. After that has been completed, you'll follow these steps within the Square app:

  1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap ≡ More.

  2. Tap Settings > Account.

  3. Select Tap to Pay on iPhone > toggle on Tap to Pay on iPhone.

  4. Verify the correct Apple ID is shown. If not, choose Use a Different Apple ID.

  5. Select Agree & Continue to toggle on Tap to Pay on iPhone.

Additionally, make sure that the Square Point of Sale app is updated to the latest version on the device you'd like to use for Tap to Pay. You will need an iPhone XS or newer, and the phone must be running the latest iOS version to use Tap to Pay on iPhone. (Note: You will not be able to use Tap to Pay on iPhone if you log in to your Square Point of Sale or Square Appointments app using a Device Code.)

Once you enable  Tap to Pay, the banner at the top of the screen will read “Tap to Pay on iPhone,” and you will see Tap to Pay listed under My hardware by going to ≡ More > Settings > Hardware.

I hope this information is helpful! Please let us know if this does the trick for you.

Unfortunately, under "Settings>Account" "Tap to Pay on iPhone does not exist as an option. At that point, the instructions fall apart.

Problem: I do not have an iPhone, and the option does not appear when I log in.

Presumably, there is a way for a non-iPhone user to enable this feature for team members with iPhones!?!

Ah, sorry about that, @rcmtreasurer. The steps may be a little different on Android. You can find the steps for enabling Tap to Pay on Android devices here in our Support Center.

Tap to pay on Android works fine. We want to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone! The issue seems to be that if I personally don't have an iPhone, none of our team members can use Tap to Pay on iPhone.

@rcmtreasurer, as the account owner, you will need to log into an iPhone to enable this feature. Once it has been enabled, all team members with an iPhone will have access to Tap to Pay.

Hey there, @rcmtreasurer

Could you give me some more information on the steps you took to enable Tap to Pay? One of the biggest things to make sure is you have the most up to date Point of Sale version on the iPhone.

Check out this Support Article with the steps to enable this feature.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or run into any issues getting this enabled.
