Register for vat or not

I've set up my ecommerce shop (gift shop) 

 

Its asking me for my vat number? Do i need a vat number? 

i thought i only needed a vat number if i reached £85.000

 

Also am suppose to put vat on every listing i have on the website? 

 

Really need help as square dashboard has a message so they will unpublish site

Hey @heartfelt1 - you’re right about the threshold for needing to be VAT registered. 

You don’t need to put in a VAT number if you’re not registered, but make sure you’ve got VAT turned off on your items. This will prevent conflicts within the system and accounting.

Hi @heartfelt1 ,@Sam_400º is correct in what is saying. Just in addition if you do become VAT registered at any point you only need to add the VAT number once and not for every item but you will need to assign a VAT rate to your items e.g. not VAT, 5%, 20% whichever your product is rated at. The Square system looks after the rest for you and you can bulk edit the VAT you need to assign or individually at the item level.
