Yes, the Holidays in many industries can be JAM PACKED. Even if your industry slows down personal life generally picks up!
This isnโt always a bad thing. The holidays have a way of stressing people out but also
bringing people together. Weโve been talking a lot on the community about more face to face interactions. The holidays are the best time to implement that practice!
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS HOLIDAY SEASON?
The goal is always to remain positive. We can harp about all the stress that the holidays bring but what brings you joy?
Anything fun planned
for staff? Yourself? Favorite traditions?
We love this time of year! The shop is dressed up and everyone wants something yummy to drink.
Canโt wait to hear from you!
English traditions?! @doc_choc
Oh and we of course have to hear from @CareyJo โจ
@TheRealChipA have to know- do we like peppermint ice cream?
Sad face!
*fingers crossed* our cat usually doesnโt care much about the tree. Maybe if there is a low ornament heโll lay on his back and play with it.
but if I present has one of this sticky bows? Itโs getting ripped off. He has a plast
I've been worried about all of my trees and our new cat Max. But he hasn't even thought of touching my Halloween tree or getting up on the counter where all of my small ones are. He's been sleeping on the tree skirt under the tree. I feel lucky!
Thatโs our catโs fav nap spot!! On the tree skirt ๐
Who doesn't love Chrimbo, even Scrouge came around to it eventually.
It's definitely a time for chocolate, a lot of chocolate! We have been flat out for the last few weeks in production making Advent Calendars and Christmas salamis.
Now you can't beat a Christmas pudding, preferably homemade that has been maturing and brandy fed for at least 8 months and definitely set alight with dads best brandy (shhh). We used to have them in school and back in the day they would add a silver six pence coin stirred in. Whoever found it would have good luck for the year ahead...starting with a trip to the dentist if you happened to find it!
We then have the tradition of the Kings Speech, on T.V. 3pm on Christmas Day where they reflect on the year and share festive wishes, at which time carbs are kicking in from dinner overload and way too many pigs in blankets (kilted soldiers if you live north of the border), the heat from the log fire weighs the eyelids and the whole family look and feel like a herd of walruses flat out asleep in the living room, power napping for the resumption of more food and drinking in the evening.
As if you hadn't eaten enough on Christmas Day, well there is always Boxing Day on the 26th to look forward with even more food and drink, usually left over turkey buffet or a turkey curry. For a lot of people there is the traditional Boxing Day walk, where you spend more time wishing people Merry Christmas than walking, but it helps work off the previous days food. Then time is spent visiting friends and family and if you haven't emptied the bank on the run up to Christmas, there are always the Boxing Day sales in the shops. Love watching the rush in to Selfridges...its like a stampede of wildebeests looking for handbags and TVs.
Then unfortunately back to work for the most....Valentines Day chocolate is on the horizon! ๐๐ ๐๐
We do a witchy advent calendar. We already have 'em up on TikTok Shop. It's our7th year offering advent calendars- a true labor of love.
So cool! Have a few friends who would adore that.
There is a roaster somewhere that does an advent calendar with different beans each day for the 12 days of Christmas and Iโve always thought thatโs so awesome.
@ryanwanner if you ever do this LET ME KNOW.
@Lovewell This is definitely a fantastic idea that I'm thinking about, but considering I'm now on month 19 without a functioning coffee bar I need to prioritize how and when I'm spending any $ at all. More than likely next Christmas season!
I also know of a coffee roaster here that used to do a gift box with 4oz packages from 9 of the local roasters plus themselves. It was a hit and they sold out within a week or two each year. They didn't do one last year though. I wonder if they're planning one for this year...
Oh 100% understand.
Love the collaborative effort they made on that. So fun!
month 19 already? Have you considered asking them if they are doing it, and maybe you could poke your head into and get those beans rolling again if they don't?
Great idea! Maybe he could get in on this advent calendar.
I have one friend and a sister who would love that calendar too!!
That is so cool!!
This sounds like an absolute dream (for
someome thatโs not making the chocolate but consuming it ๐)
Is talking about bigger chocolate companies to you like when someone brings up Starbucks to me? Likely so.
All Iโm saying is I havenโt met a crunchie bar I didnโt like and if an actually chocolatier made one it be DIVINE.
Or if somehow your advent calenders could ship to the states!
Also when you said the Kingโs Speech I thought you meant the movie then realized you meant the actual king of England! My sister and I do keep up on Royal news. Princess Kate looked STUNNING at the State Banquet.
Boxing Day sounds awesome! So does Turkey Curry. In fact I might have to make this with our leftovers. I have a great friend from Bangladesh that had taught me to make
curry and a really great butter chicken (which I feel like also could be subbed for
turkey)
Cheers to the holidays! Does your area decorate? Lights on the buildings and such?
I LOVE her clothes!!! I so often wish I knew what it was like to be a Royal....
I love a good Christmas hallmark movie with a royal family twist ๐
Definitely provides some great perspective on what Christmas is like for you over the pond! Very cool!!!
I actually enjoy Christmas and Thanksgiving. Its probably the two times out of the year where I full disconnect myself from the business and spend and enjoy the time with family and friends.
Always thought that spring/summer holidays are about community. And fall/winter holidays are about our more intimate personal relationships. So youโre preaching to the choir.
Exactly. Even now though and in recent years, my siblings always seem "rushed" in a hurry to get no where. It's sad to say but they are also ones who live and thrive on their phones.
Yesss!
I mean we have a the community aspect of work because we host a christmas
open house every first Thursday of December.
Other than that itโs more family/friend time!
