Hi
I'm in the UK and just received my new Square reader today. I went to set up the rest of my account having only just registered my email address so that I could order the hardware and I find that Square thinks I'm in the US and is asking all US based questions for my address and about my business and banking.
I seem unable to find any way to change this or find threads of folk with similar challenge. Please can someone help me?
thanks
Ian
Alternatively, if you sign up with https://squareup.com/i/mattonline it'll force you to sign up as a UK user as you are referred by a UK user - this should fix it!
Hey @iandmcgregor! Did you use a referral from a user in the US?

This hasn't worked as my account already exists from my email address, so I can't create a new one with the same address and if I log in then I'm back in the US spiral I can't get out of.
thanks for the quick responses though, much appreciated.
nope just created an account through the web site and placed an order for a Square reader that shipped to me in 2 days from the London address
Hey @iandmcgregor, just want to jump in here quickly! This sounds like something our Support team will be able to help with. You can give us a call tomorrow on 0800 - 098 8008, 9am-5pm or send us an email here.
thanks I'll do that. I did drop an email but since I'm new I didn't know how quick that response would be so I thought I'd try this.
Hello, did you find how to set up UK account, having same problem as you! Thanks
Hey @Haythem1, sorry to hear that. So, the only way to fix this issue would be to create a new account using the Square UK link, as the US account will be unusable if you are based in the UK.
Alternatively, you can scroll all the way down to the bottom of our homepage and select the correct region and language by clicking the small globe symbol on the bottom left. This is what it should look like:
Doing this will bring you to the UK site. From there, click Sign In on the top right and then click Sign Up. This will bring you through the signup workflow.
Hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else I can help with ☺️
Is there another way to identify if Square thinks you are a US site?
I'm now worried, based on my email I'm experiencing the same.
Hi @Slice_of_Sussex, sorry to hear you're running into this issue too.
Is it the Square app and Reader that's telling you you are USA based? Have you recently purchased the Reader - and if so where did you buy it from?
Which email are you referring to? The quickest solution would be to give our support team a quick call to ensure the account you set up is UK based.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.
Thank you, one of the team got back to me and confirmed I am registered with the UK site.
Thanks @Slice_of_Sussex.
Did you happen to buy the Reader on eBay/Amazon?
The only other setting that could affect this would be if you are using an iOS device you may have your Apple ID set to the incorrect country or region and therefore have an incorrect version of the Square app downloaded.
If you could double-check this setting and let me know.
