Hi everyone! 👋
We run a children’s clothing business and are exploring the idea of launching a podcast to connect more personally with our customers and share the story behind our brand.
We’re thinking of covering topics like:
Behind-the-scenes of our seasonal collections 🎃👕🎄
Tips for parents when shopping for kids’ clothes
Funny or heartwarming moments from fairs and festivals
If you’ve started a podcast—especially in retail or fashion—I'd love to hear:
What platform you used for recording and hosting
What equipment helped you get started easily
How you promoted your podcast and grew your audience
Do you do a weekly podcast?
Thanks in advance! We’re excited to try something new and would really appreciate any advice or insight.
Hi we do have a podcast and we release episodes every other week.
We actually have a podcast producer and it's expensive (LOL) we have edits and different camera angles but you don't need to have that.
Zencaster is a very good platform- we upload to all major podcast carriers as well as Youtube.
it's very hard to get podcast listeners- heading into season 3 we are bringing on guests to help boost listeners.
I don't know if I've just missed this or haven't been around long enough to know, but that's so cool! I had no idea you have one! How does someone listen and I'm guessing it's the same as your store, but tell me about it so I can spread the word!
It's called Apothecary After Dark- it's on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEKLsjygwxHp3SlNXycEI4Vt_Nj5HvR99
Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4FidjxnROgZYDOZMKVLOjH
Apple....
Really all the places you can listen/watch
We are just closing out our 2nd season this week and production for season 3 starts tonight!
Thanks for the info! I passed it on to a friend of mine.
@DinaLRosenberg Thank you for responding, First off congratulations on 3 seasons. I’m in the half ready to do it, half not. I’m ready, but Tammy isn’t onboard yet. She is a natural talker we do live shows and when she sees we are live she can just talk for hours, on the other hand there is myself. If you see me in the Square meetups I say nothing, I’m not a natural talker. But it is something I want to do so I will have to figure out how to become a talker.
I have a few questions if you don’t mind.
1. What would you do differently if you were starting over today?
2. How do you plan or structure each episode to keep it engaging.
3. How many episodes did you plan before you launched?
4. What tips do you have for creating consistent content and staying motivated?
5. How do you plan or structure each episode to keep it engaging?
I’m going to check out your podcast. Thanks again.
1) If I were starting over I think we'd try and get more guests in- guests help grow listenership as they also share the episodes on their channels.
2) So- that's evolved over time- we basically pick topics and keep our episodes to no more than 25 minutes cause you want people to listen thru. we also make sure we ask our followers what they want to hear. We end episodes with a tarot card pull "for the collective"... which is fun...
3) We had 4 in the bank an we release two a month and record two each month... we have 18 episodes per "season" taking a break over the Summer.
4) Don't over commit.. we knew weekly episodes would just be TOO MUCH for us so we chose 2x a month. It's better to have consistency in the thing rather than stopping and starting
I see you sell live- that is how our podcast was born- we also sell live weekly and everyone loved the banter- and so the term Apothecary After Dark was born (we hold our live sales on Friday nights). Do what's authentic to YOU- the reason people tune into your lives is why they'll watch your podcast
Thanks for the information. I've watched some of your episodes on youtube. I like your opening and you have a lot of topics you can talk about. I'm worried with children's clothing we may be thin on topics. We would only do 2 a month, with our travel schedule we couldn't do a weekly and really wouldn't want to.
We've been selling live for about 7 years, starting out just going live on facebook, then using reply/sold and finally settling on CommentSold. Tammy is a natural I'm just afraid I would be a deer in headlights when the recording starts.
I hope it's a smashing success!!!
Hi!!
we have a podcast.
we actually just uploaded a few new episodes a couple weeks ago.
it’s called Loving & Learning you can find it anywhere you listen to podcasts!
it should relate to anyone not just coffee shop peeps or business owners 🙂
I’m going to come back to you with podcast things. I don’t know things off the top of my head.
So cool!!
I’m gonna check it out. Right now in the planning stages, I think it will help just to see how people format their podcast. I still haven’t started on an intro or outro, but that shouldn’t be hard.
I want to start a podcast. It's on the list of things to do once we get into our new building (which isn't going well right now).
But I've generally given myself an 80/20 rule when it comes to any of our content. 80% value, 20% promo.
I'm not quite sure what we're going to talk about though. I feel like we'll run out of things to talk about if I just focus on coffee, and I don't want it to be random topics like "coffee talk" -it still needs to feel like it has focus and direction.
I'm not sure on platform or how to promote either, but I do plan on it being weekly.
That’s exactly how I feel. How much can we talk about children’s clothing? And how can we keep it fresh and engaging? The biggest hurdle right now is selling Tammy in the idea. She keeps saying we’ve turned 60 and wants to start slowing down some, but I think we need to keep engaging our customers. If we hadn’t had the following on Facebook when Covid hit it would’ve put a strain on us, we keep a rainy day fund, but you don’t want to use it all up.
That's a tough-ie, I can see both sides. Have you considered collaborating with an influencer? There are quite a few who are having kids. I don't follow any clothing podcasts to know what they talk about.
This makes me wonder if any of the coffee shops I visit around me have podcasts. I don't know why I hadn't considered researching that way before. Now I know what I'm doing this afternoon.
I’ve thought about that, we talked more about a podcast today and Tammy started reading off ideas and I said see, we can do this. 90% of my battle is getting Tammy on board after that it’s smooth sailing. 🙂
