Hi Frances

No it was not helpful.... I have no way of resetting the domain the option is NOT there..... I have tried everything in the self help I cannot connect my domain name to square as my domain supplier requires a name server not an ip address thats my first issue!

I tried connecting through a sub domain and now I cannot clear that option problem 2....

I wanted to use an easy option for a website and not a cpanel this is why I chose square all the information made it sound so easy..... the support options are inadequate I have spent 3 days trying to get on a chat option, without luck.

All the support info takes me around in circles and the only DNS options are an IP address.  My website is 5 years old so I am not completely new to this and have a fair understanding of how to build a site, I just wanted an easier solution, where the updates and carts were all looked after all I would need to do is add product.. I am cancelling my online with square and putting it down to a VERY expensive mistake and I will migrate my existing site to a new host..

But thank you for your information and perhaps Square should put warning first before signing people up that they DO NOT use Nameservers instead the use IP addresses .....

Cheers Cherise

By the way Frances

I love using square products I have used square terminals in my business for a long time another reason why I thought square website would be good..

I don't want to run square down but their website options are NOT suitable for every one and that should be disclosed

@Cherise,

I understand your frustrations, DNS can be complicated. Can you tell me your website domain?  I can do some DNS queries and work out where your DNS is hosted and give you better instructions.

I think the article assumes your domain is hosted with Square but I think perhaps yours is elsewhere?

What exactly are you trying to do - you refer to linking your website, which would require A record updated but then refer to MX records which are email related.

I'm just another Australian Square user, but I also have a background in IT. I'd love to help you resolve the issue rather than see you leave Square. If you PM me, happy to jump on a quick zoom or similar to help you get it sorted out.

Hi Thanks for reaching out

initially I was after the MX for the email however I soon realised that the domain name was not linking and would not link unless I could put in the name servers.

I did get a bit confused between square and squarespace as squarespace have name servers in help.

thats when I realised I could not link my domain to square I am with netregistry I now only have the one website and just want to have easy as I am semi retired now and thought I would move away form cpanel.

If you are able to help that would be great as square support seams to be non existent although they have always been helpful with their terminal help. desertdesignsart.com.au

Hi @Cherise ,

I'm a little confused as to what you want to do. I checked out your website and can see its hosted elsewhere (appears to be Joomla), and as you say, your domain is also elsewhere. I'm not sure what part Square plays in all this.

Sqaure Online is a complete website builder and you would not be able to simply migrate your website to the platform. You'd effectively have to build a new website - is that what you want to do ?

If you are just trying to resolve the SSL issue then this is a function of wherever your website is hosted.

I see you are in WA like me - happy to jump on the phone and try and clear up any confusion you/we may have.

If you'd like to, you can click on my name at the top of this post and send me a direct message with contact details.

Kind regards,

Bruce

Hi Bruce

Yes I understand that square is a whole unit and that is why I chose to go with square an build a NEW site, however I want to KEEP my domain name as I have been using the name for over 5 years and have a following on that website.

All I wanted to do was build a NEW and EASY site with square drop everything else but KEEP my domain name.

the problem is I CANNOT find how to change the name servers as square do not seem to have nameservers, square uses an IP address and Netregistry WILL NOT accept an IP address.

I also understand the SSL issue I haven't renewed it as I wanted to move my site away from ARVIXE and move it to square who look after the ssl etc

I musn't be explaining myself very well as I still seem to be going in circles

Hi @Cherise ,

OK I have a better understanding now & think I know where the confusion is.

You can definitely do that - I happy to help you get it done.

The way it works: A domain is hosted by a registry, and the nameservers dictate where the DNS is hosted (the actual lookups). This may or may not be the same place.

The key thing is, domain hosting and DNS hosting are different things.

In your case it appears your DOMAIN is hosted with netregistry/webcentral

The Domain is pointing to the nameservers:

Name Server: NS1.ARVIXESHARED.COM
Name Server: NS2.ARVIXESHARED.COM

Which I'm guessing is where your existing site is hosted.

The instructions that Square gives assumes that the Domain & DNS are hosted elsewhere, and you just need to create/adjust the appropriate entries.

If you are going to drop your old hosting then this poses a problem because you DNS needs to be hosted somewhere

Most registries offer free DNS hosting also so you'd need to switch it back to hosted DNS. Then you will be able to edit the records within netregistry to link it to Square.

One further complication is you appear to have your email hosted where your existing site is. Square does not host email so if you decide to close your existing hosting (where your website is) you're going to need to set up email hosting elsewhere.

You can work on your new Square site prior to updating this stuff if you want, that way your old site will still be accessible but if you just want to get it sorted out then I can try help you get it all working.

I know it all sounds complicated, and it is a little bit convoluted, but all doable - I've seen your contact no. on your facebook page, so just say the word and I'll give you a call to try explain it a little bit better and let you know how to sort it all out.

Kind regards,

Bruce
