Help building my website

I am struggling to get my site set up. Square Online. No tutorial out there to help. I have got to certain stages, but keep losing my items and trying to link items to pages which is baffling me as I have done some before. This is definitely the site for me but losing the will after more than a year to get my site publish. If there is anyone that can help with some/lots of questions will be highly appreciated

Hey @Sew-itCraft-it sorry you’re having some issues! But you’ve come to the right place 👍

The more detailed you can be with questions the easier it is to help, a link to your site is great and screen shots help a lot too (but make sure you don’t include personal information as this is an open forum).

Remember there are two areas where your items are listed…. The standard square dashboard and also the online dashboard.

thank you Sam_400. You already got me on The standard square dashboard and also the online dashboard. What is that?

The problem I'm experiencing is:

1. linking my items to the category in the header navigation panel. I have done it but now struggling to remember how I did it and losing items I know I added/

2. Browse by category I don't even know how I created that but it is a mess and want to delete this so that I can put it correctly

3. Overall the layout of my site is good but lost to things I did previously it's like things have changed on the site.

4. When I want to attach a item to a linked page the category does not show up, puzzled by that

Here is a link to my site: https://drafts.editmysite.com/d/MPKNo49A3pUQlVn6RBKLuv9YXzB/

Any help would be appreciated

Hey @Sew-itCraft-it - I mean it should walk you though it shouldn't it!

There isn't a single user guide as with different bits updating it would be out of date very quickly.

This guide here links to lots of different help articles which looking through will cover what you're looking to do.

Where I was mentioning the two different sides of the dashboard

-> This is the online dash for your website https://square.online/

-> this is the dash for your Square account (including any face to face sales) https://squareup.com/dashboard/

They are both part of your account, but categories don't sync between them right now.

My advice would be to go to the square.site dash and only use that for your product and category creation - then you'll know it'll all show online.

Hi @Sew-itCraft-it

How are you getting on, have you managed to resolve your issues?

First can I just check you have attached a category to each of your items? If not you will need to go through each item and select the categories you want them to be associated with.

Hi Philip thank you for checking in yes I've sort of now figured it out and recreated a new website and built up around the categories which is now good not perfect yet but good I do also forget what I've done and spend time mind boggling on what I just did and how I did it if that makes sense.

Hi @Sew-itCraft-it just check out the link your site and it looks really nice.

The thing with building a website it really is easy to forget how you did something, particularly when it was done a few months even years back in my case.

What I love about Square is their team keeps on surprising with little additions, it's like finding a hidden gemstone. It might not have all the functionality you need but a little bit of out the box thinking and compromise gets you 95% there ( its a lot better than having a bespoke site made particularly for a small business, low cost and you take control). Also Square is great as its robust snd takes a lot to break so you can experiment with the website until you get something that you are happy with and that helps your business.

Anyway enough singing the praises of Square, just glad you got it fixed. Reach out of you are having any other challenges and I will help where I can or put it out to our little team who may have a solution.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! 😀

Also Sam I created one before, but can't remember how I did it.  If I can't get my site up and running how can I create a one-pager to send as a link so my customer can purchase single items
