Giving Tuesday thoughts and ideas

Since Giving Tuesday just happened on Dec 2, I thought it would be interesting to see what others have done either with their business, directly supporting a cause, or promoted in-store for their customers to do.

We donated food to multiple food banks/soup kitchens for Giving Tuesday.  We normally donate all our fresh yesterday donuts and pies via frozen goods to local food banks, but we thought giving fresh goods for use that day for people in need, as the cold is setting in, was an extra step we could take to make someone else's life just a tiny bit better.

We were thinking of a stuffed animal drive for a different year of new or gently used lovies that need a new person to love them.  Often, when we think of the homeless, we think of adults, but an estimated 20% of the homeless are under 18.

While we didn’t do it on giving Tuesday, we actually worked with a local cat cafe to help them afford some new tablets for their front end operations.

I’m hoping we can help out more in the future with other organizations but we are just a hair too small at this moment. Give when we can though!

I run a community holiday gift drive. Families in the local school community that need help with gifts let me know what their kiddos would like- and I match them with community members. The gifting is anonymous (only I know). Each year we help about 40 different kids and seniors.

There are typically a few kids that don't get their wishes adopted and we'll use our "Ganesha Altar" money to buy those kids their gifts.

We are proud supporters of St.  Jude and Shriners Hospitals for kids.  We figured if we are going to sell children’s clothing.  We should support them in their time of need.

While we didn't participate in Giving Tuesday this year, we do a lot of community donations throughout the year. I have this noted on my list for next year as we'd love to do something and love these ideas! Thanks for sharing everyone!
