Can I get a business account without register company?

Hi, there. I'm starting a Realstate business individually. I want to accept payment via my website. I've no business registration documents. Can I create a Square business account only with businessname. And if Square ask to provide documents in futher, what will I do? Please suggest me. Thank you.

Hi @Anwar24,

Thanks for writing in with this question!

It's a good idea to check which registration documents you need to have in order to run a real estate business in your state.

You can learn more about the business, and personal details required to sign up for a Square account here

Square periodically reviews all accounts to make sure Square is a secure place to do business for everyone, and as part of our reviews we may ask for documents detailing more about your business and how you operate.

As always, feel free to stop by The Community with questions, concerns and even feature requests. We are more than happy to assist.

@Anwar24 ;

You can create a Personal Square account, but with you using it for Business you might be Personally Liable for any lawsuits against the Business too.   So can you do it Yes you just give your personal information etc.  Is this advisable.... ???.  Let's say in the future you get bigger and start hiring employees etc and want to change you Square from Personal to Business, you would need a new Square account and would lose all the sales data from the personal account to the business account.   I started a C-Corp to keep all my Personal and Business separate in case of a lawsuit.  Now my C-Corp owns my small business and on my Checks I have my C=Corps name followed by DBA as Pocono Candle.  If I were you I would talk to some business advisors, a lawyer and or an accountant to see how you should proceed since everyone's situation is different.   Plus the laws and regulations for some types of business are regulated and may or may not be able to be done in a Personal Business.  What I did works for me right now, but will it in the future?   Is what I did right for you?  Since there are different types of businesses like Sole Proprietorships, Partnerships, S-Corps and Corps; you can set up a business many different ways and each way has its own Disadvantages and Advantages financially and legally.

The other thing is you say you are starting a real estate business.  In a Real Estate Business there are many types of Real Estate Businesses.  Rental Properties, Flipping, Selling for others, etc and each one has its own unique rules and how you may want to handle receiving your payments, Personally or as a Business entity.   Talk to others in the type of real estate you are getting into and see what they did and why they did it that way.   Starting a Business may cost a few bucks now, but save you thousands possibly down the road if you set it up correctly now.

Thanks for flagging, we have a global team covering the Community so sometimes terminology can get mixed up! The sentiment is the same though 🙂

Noting that the article linked by Anthem was US-based and we would want to view the UK version for UK-based sellers, which is here.

To start your real estate business and accept payments via your website, you can create a Square account using only your business name. However, be prepared that Square may request documentation later. In such cases, consider using a DBA (Doing Business As) registration or seek advice from a local business resource to understand your options. A similar situation arose with the Belleside website, where they initially faced registration issues. They resolved this by obtaining necessary documentation, allowing them to operate smoothly. As you navigate your real estate venture, remember that establishing credibility is essential for future growth and client trust.
