Reality check! How do you tell clients their idea wonโ€™t look good? ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Have you ever had a client ask for a look that you knew wouldn't work for them? Did you decide to break the news to them or give them what they asked for? How do you set expectations for clients who have unrealistic ideas?

@mdgolden01 I love these ideas! I think offering an alternative is always better than straight-up saying no to someone.

I know a lot of replies here are for hair and nails, but I'm a tattoo artist. I feel like when a client presents me with something that isn't really practical for any reason, as long as we explain why, with logic, and offer up a solution to help them get close to what they want, they are generally really grateful for the advice and options!

I have a clothing store, and I offer suggestions if someone tries on something that may not be flattering to them.

Hi! In regards to cuts, I usually talk about their neck LENGTH (especially if itโ€™s someone wanting to go really short), their forehead size / density / hairline (for bangs), and explain how what the particular cut will bring out & draw attention to. Usually by the end of the chat, they agree with me they wonโ€™t like what the cut may do for them or how much time they might have to spend to have it do what they want. If I go over all this and they still want the same cut, I do it. As long as youโ€™re a good hair cutter, your cut wonโ€™t be BAD-๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ thatโ€™s what I always try to remember. If they love it, then good! If they hate it, theyโ€™ll trust you next time!
