I think it’s important during these times as device providers, to secure payment and minimize no-shows and last-minute cancellations by implementing and enforcing deposits to hold appointments, as well as a policy. In line with that thought, I was wondering if Square has an option to take deposits when people book online, or when scheduling them, in-person, at the business?
Hi there,
Yes they do! I've been using square to run my business business for almost 10 years. There are a few ways to do this.
1. Update your payments + cancellations policies directly with square. You would follow this process -- under appointments > settings > payment & cancellations. There will be three options available, a normal appointment booking with no protection for your business, an option for "no-show protection" which requires your customer to input their card to book with you, and if they don't show up, you have the option to charged your cancellation fee to the card on file. And the last option is full pre-payment.
2. Use the square invoicing system with your clients. I use this for weddings, and the square appointments for smaller appointments like in studio styling, etc. This option allows you to bill for a deposit with the rest of the balance being due at the date of your choice.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be happy to help!
Haven’t found a way to take a deposit if we’re manually entering the appointment.
like of a client calls in and we’re entering their info.
I wish there was a way to take deposits on select services when booking online, instead of all services. For example hair coloring services that take 2 hours or more. A high percentage of our clients book online and to call them later to add card on file for those services can be annoying.
100% agree
Just send them the deposit link via text
Same!!!
You can require them to put a card on file when booking online.
You can also send payment requests through square messaging in appointments if you are using that.
Yes. But I don’t think there is an option to take deposits for specific services.
it’s either a deposit for ALL services, or none. I wish they would change that.
however, you can use their no show protection which requires a card on file to book
