What is a loan payment refund?

I had money in my square account then it went to $0 due to a square loan refund what does this mean and where did my money go.

Hi @Bushelers.  I’m not sure that we can answer this question here in the seller community. But I can think of one possibility. I am a little confused by the word “refund” in the title of this thread, since refund would imply that Square gave you money back.  But based on your actual question, I think this is what might have happened.

I assume that you had a Square Loan that you were repaying.  Is it possible that that loan matured — ie - that it has been 18 months since the loan was taken out and there was still a balance remaining?  If so, according to the loan agreement Square has called the loan due and payable and will take 100% of your balance until it is paid.  Also, if they will possible debit the linked checking account for these funds as well, again in accordance with the loan agreement and terms.

You can go to your online dashboard > Banking > Loans.  Select the current loan, and scroll down to the activity section.  You should see the payment activity there and you can click on any payment to view more detail about it.

Also on that loan page, you can click on the ellipses (…) beside the current loan to view the loan agreement you e-signed.

If none of that helps, then you’ll have to wait until Monday and contact the Loan Department.

That's what has me thrown off is "refund" I agree it sounds like they had a loan payment due but didn't met the minimum? Need more information really. I do agree that's what I'm thinking it is as well???

Hello, @Bushelers do you have an existing loan now? Are you current on your minimum payments? If you can give us a little more information about it, it will be easier to help you or put you into contact with the right department.

@Twpchair.  I knew I was missing another possibility, and you came up with it!  Yup, if a two-month minimum payment was not met by automatic loan payments then, yes, there would be a hit to either Balance or to the linked checking account.  Thanks for adding that one.

You're welcome! I asked for more information about it. I only had square hold anything of mine and that was by me asking them to when my banking account got hacked. I could still swipe away and 2 days later I contacted them and that night all my held money hit. This doesn't sound like a dispute or charge back. I'm thinking he might not have met the minimum due? Just a guess to they provide more information. Nice to see you again! I hope you have a great busy holiday season!
