Square Card Questions

Hi,

I'm looking for some clarification on the Square Card.

1. I misunderstood that the money would remain on the card. I thought it would be a way to get access to it while it's in the pre-transfer stage, ie on the weekend. So from now on the money will just stay on the card unless I manually transfer it?

2. Many suppliers charge fees to use a credit card for purchases. They pass on the credit card fees which you can avoid if you pay debit or cash. Since this card already has our money on it, when we're rung through, is it treated as a credit card or a debit card? Am I going to have to transfer the money to my bank account first if I want to avoid that fee?

3. Similarly, sometimes we pay with e-transfers. Am I still going to be able to do that or will I again have to first manually transfer it to my bank account first?

Was this a mistake? Did I now just make it so that I have to think 2-3 business days in advance, and then have to manually do what was happening already automatically, to avoid extra fees before making any larger purchases?

Thanks.

Hi @Josh123, thanks for reaching out. I’m happy to help clarify a few things about the Square Card.

  1. You’re correct — the money will remain on your Square Card unless you transfer it to your bank. Even if you transfer over the weekend, it will still follow the standard 1–2 business day process.

  2. The Square Card is considered a debit card, and there are no fees from us to use it.

  3. The card includes both routing and account numbers. You can use them to allow third parties to debit your balance at no cost for bill payments or expenses, or to deposit funds directly into your balance.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
