Number on message be attached to the business phone number

My clients are often confused by the 855 area code assigned to me. If we could at least get appropriate area codes that would be so beneficial.

When using the assigned number, I find it to be less personal and I want my clients to feel comfortable when accepting texts. I always get a weird look when I give someone the phone number, which creates a disconnect.

For context, I am a tattooer and often have lengthy text communication with most of my clients, discussing the design of their desired tattoo or scheduling appointments.

I would absolutely pay an additional fee to get a new number with a local area code.

Hi, @damnginatattoos ! Unfortunately, @JTPets is right...this will not change with the area codes being 855 for the business numbers. Below, I will outline the current issue and some workarounds.

Current Situation:

  • Square assigns 855 toll-free numbers
  • This can appear impersonal or unfamiliar to clients
  • It may affect client trust and communication
  • Local area codes would feel more authentic

Impact on Your Business:

  1. Client Trust:

    • Unfamiliar area code creates hesitation
    • May appear as spam or automated system
    • Less personal connection
    • Potential communication barriers
  2. Professional Image:

    • Local numbers typically inspire more confidence
    • Better alignment with local business identity
    • More natural for text conversations
    • Easier for clients to remember

Current Workarounds:

  1. Short-term Solutions:

    • Inform clients in advance about the 855 number
    • Add the number to your business cards with explanation
    • Include it in your social media profiles
    • Save conversations to maintain history
  2. Alternative Options:

    • Use your personal number (not ideal)
    • Third-party business phone services
    • Google Voice (if available in your area)
    • VoIP services with local numbers

I hope this helps.
