Help: Just Getting Started with Appointments and cannot figure out how to do what I need

So, we are giving Appointments a go.  We have been with Square for seven years and have utilized pretty much every feature, including custom programming via API.  It seems the only areas we have not tried out are Appointments and Online Store.

Now we are embarking on Appointments and it just doesn't seem to do what it should do.  If anyone can help me figure out the seemingly simple set up points below, that would be great.  I have read through the forums until my eyes crossed and some of these things seem like they are just not available, so I cannot figure out how anyone successfully uses this feature of appointments.  I would love to see examples of how others are using Appointments.

 

We allow for practice clay wheel time during certain times of the day and it is $10 per hour for use of the wheel.  We have eight wheels available for use, so we have set up the Resources in Square Appointments as each wheel available.  We also specified the blocks of time that are available in the settings.  For instance noon to 5pm on Tuesday is available and you can book one hour or five hours.  If you book five hours, it should be $50 ($10 per hour).  None of this seems to work.  Below is a breakdown of my pain points.  I have only been working on this for a couple of days, and I am guessing there is a bunch I am just not understanding, because none of the Appointments feature seems like it is functioning in the basic sense of the idea of appointment booking.

 

  • First of all, I published the site to get a feel for what it does and now I cannot figure out how to get back to the screen for editing the layout.  It seems that once published, I cannot make changes?  Is that the case or am I missing something.  In the dashboard, I click on Appointments and clicked every menu item and it doesn't seem that I can modify the layout or even un-publish the page.  Very strange.
  • Next, under Appointments->Settings->Calendar & Booking, it shows that I have it toggled to allow multiple bookings in one transaction, but that doesn't seem to work.  We sell eight seats per hour and customers can book for one hour or multiple hours.  However, it only allows for one hour block to be selected during booking and checkout even though we have this toggle on.

  • At the top of the customer viewable page, there is a link for Switch Locations, which doesn't make sense since only one of our locations offers bookings and we have set everything in the settings, that we can find, to only be for the one location.    Customers will get confused by this.  Is there a way to remove the Switch Locations link?  Maybe once I figure out how to edit the published page, I will find this setting to remove this switch locations link?

  • When I am in the dashboard and go to Appointments->Calendar and click Create Appointment (I guess this is for our team to manually set a phone appointment?), I choose the service, which is $10 per hour, and then I choose 3 hours as the duration, yet the total amount due stays at $10 rather than the $30 that it should for three hours.  It seems no matter how much time I choose, the dollar amount does not calculate.

If anyone, who uses Appointments successfully, can help me navigate through these seemingly basic appointment functions, I would be most grateful.

Okay I may  be able to help you with part of this.  I haven't added services in a while, but this definitely seemed to be a lot harder to configure than it should have been, for me at least.  Maybe I just did it half **bleep** backwards.  

 

So Create your Service, and then I had to manually add a variation for each hour with a fixed price one by one.  

 

Once those were created be sure to click on the "number of variations" and that the selected item is "per Item" as per hour doesn't seem to register, odd. 

I attached a few screen shots, and I set up a test appointment and it calculated correctly. I'm not sure if/how it would look on the customers end though.
