Discount or Coupon Codes for Services - Square Appointments

Hi, we wanted to offer coupon or discount codes to our clients.

But there is no option for them to enter the code during checkout online.

Is there a way we could utilize codes and use during online booking?

It would be very helpful if we can have this possible during booking appointments online.

Thanks.

Hello @Stretch1 and welcome to the Seller Community

This is one of our most requested features, and our team is working hard on making it possible. That being said at this time Services and appointments can only be discounted when completed via the Square Appointments application.

Thank you for the information that this is in the works.

The Appointments Booking calendar is so useful because it takes the tooing and frooing out of scheduling and the customer can purchase right then and there.

Having the ability to enter a coupon code will make this process so much better as offering a discount is something we sometimes want to do, but don't want to add to that discounted price the difficulty of having to schedule manually, or through another software.  Thank you!

I'm not sure about them entering the code during online booking but when we use Square Marketing and either email or send out SMS with coupon codes attached...each client gets a customize code that we enter for them when checking them out after the service is completed.  For example...we have an ongoing email that will be sent to clients who haven't visited the salon in about 3 to 4 months with an offer inviting them back.  When they come in...we do their service and they show us or give us the coupon to redeem before running their card.  Hope this helps out a little 🙂

let's see if you guys can help me since square is incompetent.  i want to create coupon codes that can be entered at checkout.  I don't see items... only services.  clients book the service they need and make the appointment on my website www.listingpics.net.

i just want a field where they can enter a coupon code like any other website out there.  i want to create coupon codes whenever i want for whatever discount i want and i want to be able to set expiration dates for those codes and if they can be used more than once.

i have created discounts but there doesn't seem to be any way for someone to use them.

any ideas?

thanks.

I’m following as I have exactly the same problem! I don’t sell items, just services and appointments are made online. But my customers can’t enter a coupon code anywhere and automatic discounts don’t work either. I don’t want to have to go through every service and change it all so that I can put a deal on!

Following, I have the same issue. Square is really making it tough for seemingly simple service options...

Hello @Stretch1 @chandlertarot, I appreciate you reaching out, and understand the business need for discounts with online booking. At this time it is feature request, I would suggest submitting this request on our Ideate Board. We will make sure to keep an eye on it and provide updates as they become available. Thanks for resurfacing this!

Hey there, @WavySound 👋

At this time it is feature request. I would suggest submitting this request on our Ideate Board. Our product teams do keep an eye on this and see what our sellers are asking for. I know it can be frustrating when certain features are not available yet.

Our team will provide updates on new features and products as soon as they become available 😊

Square techs- I am wondering the same question as above.  Also, has there been any progress made to allow promo codes to be entered when an appointment is being made for a service?

Time to switch services if it's been over 3 years and this still is not possible. How is this not possible??

I completely understand this can be frustrating. When we promote discount codes on social media / through email marketing - we tell our clients to pop the code in their booking notes - we can then apply this at check out - works well for us in our beauty salons x

Hi @Summer2024

I believe the sellers here make a valid point. A point-of-sale system that prevents the redemption of discount codes is a significant limitation, particularly when the platform itself encourages creating them.

I do not view this as a "feature request," but rather a fundamental gap in product development. This is a standard retail requirement that is essential for basic operations and should be integral to the system.

Furthermore, the inability to apply these codes at the register makes it impossible to track the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. It defeats the purpose of generating codes if they cannot be seamlessly utilized within the system.

@mitin - I appreciate you taking the time to call this out. This response I originally made is from 2 years ago. Our processes for directing feedback have changed greatly since then. If you would like to hop on a call with myself and @isabelle sometime soon, I'd be happy to chat through your concerns as well as go over what my role is here as a moderator in the Square Community .

This is very well said! Square specifically markets and promotes their Marketing, Text Messaging and Coupons as having this ability. It is misleading to not state or make it clear that within Square there is no way to apply Coupon Codes at the register or redeemed for Appointments online. YES It defeats the purpose of generating codes if they cannot be seamlessly utilized within the system.

"Whether you want to promote in-store events and new products, send last-minute deals, or provide seasonal offers, Square Marketing can help you drive traffic to your online and physical stores."

"Text message marketing is a reliable way to get your offers, promotions, and discounts directly into the hands of your customers.

"Keep your customers in the loop of time-sensitive offers and promotions so you don’t miss a sale. Text message campaigns can be combined with email campaigns to create a complete marketing program."

"There are a lot of different ways that you can utilize text message marketing for your business. Try these tactics to encourage engagement and increase your brand awareness.

  • Promotions and deals: Create unique coupon codes to send directly to consumers. By including a click-through CTA, you can drive customers to your website to claim and use their coupon. Through Square’s text message marketing service you can track attributed sales through text messages when purchases or coupon codes are used by customers within 14 days. "

Thank you, @Summer2024 I tagged you in the hope that you might be able to help guide this request in the right direction.

From a merchant perspective, it can feel a bit confusing that Square encourages the creation of discounts and coupons, but then limits how they can be used within the POS they’re built for. I wanted to share that feedback candidly, as it’s something that directly impacts day-to-day workflows.

You also mentioned that the process for submitting and managing feedback has changed. With that in mind, I’m curious how we can best ensure that merchant feedback and feature requests continue to be visible and actionable over time. A dashboard or portal to track these requests would be incredibly helpful, though I understand that may not currently be on the roadmap.

I’d be more than happy to hop on a call with you and Isabella to talk through this in more detail and explore any next steps together.
