Card on file + Customer accounts = Zero protection!

Maybe this should be under square online board? I'm not sure but in the last week I've had five customers book with card on file for no show protection. I had to do that so that they didn't have to pay at the time of booking due to the fact that there's no way to input a discount code on square appointments at checkout time. So I held their card for them to apply discounts when they showed up and paid in person.

Well I have five times been screwed this week out of a lot of money and a lot of time slots that could have been booked by other people because they get on there and with their customer accounts that they get to create through square they locked it or blocked me from using it and remove it or whatever they do. However, I have not gotten paid for the no-shows so it does not provide any protection whatsoever. What is the point of giving them control over the card and then promising us, the business, that it's going to give us protection that we'll be able to charge it, when you're allowing them to access that agreement when they put the card info in?? I have to pay employees for every time they don't show... When I made no money myself. Putting me in the hole.

I've had to go back to requiring full payment and I just created a custom input field at checkout as a toggle prompting then to stop if they have a code and call me to set up appointment by phone.

That's 2 HUGE features that can shut a business down.

Ugh . The more I use Square and learn it deeper.. the more disgusted I am. I search aimlessly for a replacement and ONE day I will find it!! And I will share the wealth with every other Square victim!

I went to dashboard home on my browser and followed these steps to disable customer accounts:

Home menu

Click Online

Click Online Store

Online menu

Click settings

Click customer accounts

Untoggle Enable customer accounts

If you click the Learn More link it gives great detail and screenshots of everything the customer can do with an account. Including removing card on file. (Screenshot below)

*I'm aware other threads suggest the issue is with prepaid cards but I have customers call me all the time saying they are not able to book because it says prepaid cards are not allowed for booking appointments online. So none of my declined cards are prepaid, ruling that option out**

I will go back to Card on file for no show protection, now that I have customer accounts disabled, and just wait to see if it happens again. If so, I'll go back to there difficult way I'm using now until a solution is found or I find a better product!
